i'm not really sure what to think about the Polyend. without a super-deep dive into all the sounds, all i can really say is that it doesn't sound that great and that, like the Chroma Console, it looks like a nightmare to operate in pedalboard position or from the floor in general. i also wonder if it has any swing/offset functions. the hard limit of four voices seems like a problem too.

Pending Korg 722 audio interface includes an analog filter from the Korg 700s synth:

Native Instruments is opening up control compatibility with Novation, Akai, and Korg, the free bonus of which is a free download of Komplete 15 Select (normally $99) for owners of specified hardware (check the link for a list): https://www.musicradar.com/music-tech/n ... c-creators

Is anyone willing to look past the price tag on the Qi (pron. Chee)? There are some nice sounds here, but $450 for a chorus/granular isn't really for me. I would've preferred to see a deluxe Fable or Lore/Fable combo with MIDI. Those two pedals deliver great sounds, but the lack of presets is annoying, when you compare them to something like the Particle 2. The price isn't terrible, when you think of it as 3-4 tools in one (modulation/delay/granular combo box), but as I said, an expanded Fable without the chorus would have been more enticing. At $450, it's not a starter pedal, and I don't see people who love chorus wanting to sell off their favorite analog or lo-fi chorus for this. I feel like more companies need to focus on tools that complement or enhance existing tools, rather than trying to replace preexisting tools, that people have already bonded with.

Kind of disappointing they appear to have ditched the Traveler label.

I imagine >70% of users would only need to hit the Play button for start/stop in a live context. (hard to get simpler than that) You'd do all your editing and programming in advance, unless you're doing a beats exhibition, where you wanted to do a lot of real-time manipulation on a table top.

With 2,000 samples, I imagine most people can find several sounds that balance well within a 4-track configuration. I realize a lot of people are not going to love seeing 4 tracks for drums initially, but this is largely for somewhat skeletal live setups. If you've got a full band, you don't need a fake drummer. If you're wanting to show off your solo skills in a cafe/gallery setting, then 4 tracks is plenty. The drums aren't there to be the feature instrument. If you're relying on looping, you could multi-track well in excess of 4 tracks pre-gig, and then just play over your looped Step tracks live.

As for swing functions, here's the factory snippet:
Need polymetric or polyrhythmic beats? Or maybe some generative drums? Step offers per-track swing, speed and length, step probability, randomized note playback, and more.
I think the biggest challenge is just learning to fully edit it. Most people will learn a few things to do the basics, and never fully realize its complete potential. (then eventually unload them, because it's far more than they need) I've seen a lot of DL4 guys play solo sets, and this would've been a great compliment for those kinds of performances.

Digitech Whammy Hammer On seems cool but I dunno about $280 cool: https://digitech.com/dp/hammeron/

I know I’m spoiled from picking up a Ricochet at firesale prices, but yeah. I could more reasonably see paying that or maybe more with MIDI control and presets.

Haven’t yet purged my iStomp, so I wonder if demos with the “Impossible Pedal” mode would spur me to pay $20 for that algorithm and keep that pedal. Or wait and see what comes out in an update for the HX One since last I had heard Line 6 had absorbed Digitech’s old DSP team.

What were your thoughts on the SPL Machine Head? (I've never used the original rack model, FWIW.) That feels so meta and strange. It's 2025. We've got people using machine analysis, AI, modeling software, et cetera to emulate tape. Then these guys decide the best approach would be to roll back the clock to 1998 and reissue a digital tape emulator, that's now over 25 years old.

Don’t know that one. I’ve got a constant kind of “eh, okay” about tape echo sims since I’ve had an RE-201 for 30 years.
