now that the FBI will lose their influence over things.
yeah, because the incoming administration won't try to use the Fibbies as a political weapon.
They've promised as much and have been working on it for years. So yes. That's their plan.

Despite its many flaws (particularly with regard to copyright) I think maybe YouTube deserves a little credit?
I dunno. Since it's algorithm is *supposed* to just give you stuff thats tangential to things you already engage with, it seems a lot more conducive to allowing weird communities to thrive. I'm still discovering new music and learning new things on YT all the time, and I find it easy enough to use in a way that doesn't feel like a time sink/mental drain.

Incessantly auto-playing bait videos designed to trap people into watching regardless of whether they might be interested or not has really killed most services, though. Trying to funnel people towards content for which royalty payments will go to shareholder companies is pathetic, too (*cough*spotify*cough*).

Spotify's un-editable front page and insistence on its curated playlists is obnoxious and a pain for sure.

That said I personally find Spotify's auto-play function flows on rather naturally to artists similar to whatever i just finished listening to, and I have found many good artist that way.

Pop Eating Itself.

Perverse incentives causing a corporation to literally devalue the very product its selling even further than its business model already has..

Hopefully they go all in on full AI generated pablum and we can all go back to buying records.

We decided to not longer use any Meta socials with the band. After Musk turned Twitter in a neofascist shithole, Zuckerberg obviously attempts the same with Insta and fb and announced to end fact checking as you probably know. Now there are all kinds of problems with Meta, always have been, but that was the last straw for us. So, we made an announcement and will no longer use it. All of us have already stopped using it in our private lifes for some time and we all feel very good about it. But - we need some kind of communication tool to adress our audience. For now, we can only use bandcamp to send out emails. I think of utilizing youtube as more of a communication platform. What else comes to mind? Bluesky doesn't seem very fitting for bands. What about Mastodon? Any experiences?

I wonder if Google is kicking themselves now for killing off their own social thing years back.

Is it time for a MySpace revival?

In my tests with bluesky in the last months I’d say.. I don’t know.. my band picked up more follows than my personal but… I haven’t posted many posts.. but on the personal with slightly more few posts (I hate this time of year and posting anything in December/January is forced) kind is like screaming into the void… not sure how their algorithm works yet.. if at all… but all the posts I scan though also seem like people screaming at the void…

Youtube traffic works if you post lots of vids… let us know if that works out

Aw MySpace but when the internet was fun.. back before the phone people….

I am in the process of killing off my Meta stuff also for the same reasons as Zork. Meta apps have been steaming piles of shit for a while, but Zucks moves to imitate Musk are the final straw. Im out. Gonna miss marketplace to an extent (although probs better for my wallet), and not using Messenger for group chats with friends might mean I miss out on some stuff, but that's how it goes I guess :idk:

I made a Bluesky (tomeelectronics.bsky.social) for sharing gear stuff like I used to do on IG. So far I am disliking the seeming lack of other dedicated gear accounts on there (at least non-commercial ones), and how the Discover feed is 90% Amercian political shit and 5% furry art, and 5% cats despite me repeatedly pressing the "show less like this" button and muteing posts with a bunch of words relating to American politics. Hoping it will get better, but not expecting it will...

I have a Reddit account that I dont use a whole lot, might need to use that more going forward. And the subreddits make it easy to follow the stuff I generally want to see, just don't find it particularly good for interacting on. Like I can't follow a specific person that you like in the same way that you can on IG or even Bluesky.

I guess between those two apps and here I'll have enough content to consume, something I should honestly be doing less of anyways.

A question for those leaving IG... did you nuke your content or cancel your account or some combo of both or are you just not logging in any more?

They demanded personal details last year and locked my account. I can't be bothered giving them the details just to login, so I can *then* delete.
Have fun with my pedal pics, Zucky.

Nuked. But to be fair I had already deleted all the posts from my personal account some time ago. It was only my Tome Electronics page that had some stuff on it, but that was a fairly new page so there wasnt much on that anyways.

Hmm.... Haven't been on IG in months.

Might have to take the time to dismantle posts/pictures.
