Weird, I posted a message to this thread yesterday but it seems to have disappeared! Anyway, downloading tracks now - and those who haven't put their samples up yet; please do so - more music = more fun :)

Sorry, my work week turned wonky, I will apply a gentle prod to any recalcitrant soundmakers today and see what turns up.

Congratulations Heraclitus, hope they go / went well! I'm enjoing some time off work so I've started mixing and have at least 1min30 of good stuff already - something from everyone who has taken part so far is in it!

Just out of interest, in the past I've only used the samples that other collaborators provided, but would it be considered a bit pretentious to use some of the samples that my son and I created in our track? I need some music to bridge one section of the song and another and I can't find anything that fits from what has been recorded so far and might be able to cut something out of one of our samples. If that's not the right thing then don't panic I will do some more creative thinking / hacking notes up and re arranging them until a melody appears!

I try not to use my own samples as a creative exercise, where I go in with no preconceived idea about what my piece will sound like and it's all driven by happy accidents mashing samples together. But as I see it there are no super defined rules and I wouldn't judge anyone else for doing it!! It's all about fun :zen:

Yeah I feel the same... after some more searching I found a chunk of Paul C's WAV file that I think will do the trick... so onto the next section :)

Had some fun! First gig was my semi-regular large group drone meet-up, we managed to get about a dozen people out on Easter Sunday which was not a bad showing! Evening gig I worked out some songlike bits for the kaossilator to give some structure to improvise to with double bass and drums. Some of the sounds I was using (like the "fake sax" made it into my Okta material when I was puttering along in preparation.

And for the record, I'd say using one's own material is not specifically discouraged.... I'd say I'd endeavour to avoid it myself, but no point in coming up with more rules than necessary.

Glad to hear things went well Heraclitus! Oddly enough we are using fake sax in a big way in our track at the moment (it'sthe first minute and a half with a lot of other samples on top).

Have any of the missing collaborators said if they will produce more samples? If not I'll carry on with what we've got and will just loop more of the same samples I gues... or maybe I should learn how to put a sample into Reaper and have it turn it into notes that I can play on keyboard to get more variety? Something to learn...

anyway on the good news side; we've got our track to about 2min30 in length now :)

Ouch, hopefully not too painful an experience... I've never forgotten one hard drive failure years ago... anyway our track is now well over 3 minutes long, posssibly four (can't figure out how to end it at the moment). It's a bit too loud and noisy to be ambient, but I think it sounds good! Maybe there'll be something in Lumena's music to use as an ending...

Just popping back in. I did update my folder on the dropbox.
I was lucky to have apple care and now my MacBook is half new - they replaced the whole bottom half of the computer.

As far as the uploads - I did a lot of things using Jam Origin Midi guitar - adding midi sounds to processed normal guitar. If anyone decides to use anything and needs it simplified or modified - I can do that.
Of course you can always drop it in a daw and do it yourself too.

Mine is finished :)

I spent quite a bit longer on it than I used to on my own stuff by the end, and I was pleased to be reminded how much I like making this kind of thing.
