What you're missing (substantially) in the GR ecosystem is the GR-55.

It actually lets you do DEEP dive edits and sound construction - it's not just "Trumpet #2" of previous units.

The onboard effects aren't amazing by current standards (GT-10 based, limited options for routing), but it does a full slate of vGuitar stuff and has a free aftermarket USB editor.

You get 2 PCM synths at a time, a vGuitar (that includes a phenomenal GR-300 emulation), +/-24 per-string pitch adjustments, and direct guitar out to boot.

There isn't anything better in the land of fun. I've had one since it came out, and don't regret it for a second.

yeah, i was pretty disappointed that the SY1000 didn't build on the '55
that said, i'm still hoping used '55 prices drop further
for now i'm sticking with TriplePlay/Variax cuz that's what i done did got
"good news" - since the only performing i'm doing is in a "theater" context, i actually have more call for using both of those than ever before
"bad news" yeah...welp

The 55 prices won't drop substantially until it's replaced; Roland doesn't seem to be prioritizing things there.
