Why give a man the Nobel Peace Prize for what they say their going to do???? War still in it! Nuclear? Iran is just about there....
and what Obama has done for Democracy??? I'm biased about this because I am a Scottish and a Libertarian but Ron Paul once said...... Our country's founders cherished liberty, not democracy. Everyone is slowly losing their individual freedoms, I don't know about you but my ancestors and living members of my people and myself will fight tooth and nail to keep that which is most important.....freedom. I'm not giving mine up....The Patriot Act is an evil thing....

Okay, I just pulled up the news, and there's the Nobel Committe's explanation of why they gave it:
"They lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen its role in combating climate change."

...

So now people get prizes for making full of shit promises? Haven't politicians been doing that since the beginning of time? This "excuse" for giving Obamunism a Nobel Prize is absolutely totally and completely without merit.

Well, this clearly does make me biased but I think it also gives me some perspective, so take it as you wish, but I had the experience of living in Chicago while he was a state senator and working on his campaign last year so I've actually been following the guy for a long time now.

i lived in Chicago. on the south-side. from 1999-2002. and voted AGAINST him when he ran against Rep. Bobby Rush. that election is really the main reason i don't like him.

anyway. i think the Nobel Peace Prize should go to a HUMANITARIAN. not a politician. or at least someone aligned w/ a NGO doing real work to improve to peoples lives. i think giving it to him really besmirches the legacy of the Peace Prize IMO.

Hu Jia should have gotten it. He was detained as part of a crackdown on dissents during the Christmas holiday season in 2007. Reporters Without Borders said that “The political police have taken advantage of the international community’s focus on Pakistan to arrest one of the foremost representatives of the peaceful struggle for free expression in China.” The decision to take him into custody was made after peasant leaders in several Chinese provinces issued a manifesto demanding broader land rights for peasants whose property had been confiscated for development. On April 3 2008, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in jail. Hu pleaded not guilty on charges of "inciting subversion of state power" at his trial in March 2008.

i guarantee you that Obama will do things in the intervening years that will completely invalidate & negate his winning the Nobel Peace Prize. you would be extremely naive to believe otherwise.

DoJ, DEA, setting policy on the "drug war," which by the way the administration has ended the term "war on drugs" earlier this year.

So it's definitely not out of his scope, though it may be left (for the most part) for states to decide.

Actually scope was the wrong word; it would be unconstitutional for him to legalize it.
Now to try and push a bill through Congress and the Senate that he could do.
Assuming it survived the legal system..

How about the involvement of the FDA, and years of waiting for their approval.
Removing it from the DEA’s authority, which agency would take over regulation and taxation?
The IRS, or expanding the role of the ATF?
