I dunno, there's something comforting about the implied longevity of a proper output mod, I'd just need to consult the Fibonacci equations with regards to placement.

keyboards as shitty rhythm sources

I used an old Casio keyboard to create this beat.
You press the bass key and then hit the rhythm button and it plays a bass line too.
For this I had to manually shift half a step to get it to do this "exotic" bass line.

On the drums are Amdek PHK-100 Phaser and Proco Rat.
(also some slapdash virtual drums added afterwards too).

My 13-year-old self was in a "band" for which each rhythm mode of this Casio
keyboard was for each verse of a song called "Safari". Each cheesy beat was

Second the Metal Zone suggestion. LOADS of EQ flexibility which is really important. Could also do well with a pair of Boss Bass Overdrives for the blend. Or two rats. Or mix and match.

This entered my stewardship in present condition, apparently requiring repair (as all sounds sort of go at once when you hit the key). Watching this video makes me think that might just be a design feature:

...and since keyboard representation is supported, here's a shitty keyboard.

In case you can't suss this by looking at it, it was apparently inspired by the early 1990s and is loaded with the sort of sounds you would expect to hear in second generation rave and hip-hop/rock hybrid pop tunes, naturally degraded to the point they could stuff them in a kid's toy (and it IS a toy, there's not even a headphones out or PSU in on this thing).

Funny you brought this up, I sold my Drumbrute earlier this year as it was just too much for me to really dive into, planning on buying a $60 shitty Alesis drum machine off Craigslist and trying to really shit up my life.....

SR16? I would imagine the Drumbrute is easier to shit with than any Alesis but I could be wrong.

The Alesis HR16 and Alesis HR16B are pretty shitty drum machines, too. Years ago I had my B circuit bent by a Genius and now it has a ton of switches and sounds like someone slaughtering a Nintendo.

SR-16 was my first "proper" drum machine (I think the aforementioned Synsonics was my actual first), and my introduction into programming. I caved to nostalgia earlier this year and picked another up (having sold my first one in 1997). Fill abuse between A and B parts of a pattern is something I have not found in any other drum machine (bearing in mind that my experience is limited). I like the sound of the HR units better, but they do not have the programming chops of the SR.

They can definitely shit it up (even unmodified), and the four outputs pair very nicely with distortion/effects/etc.
