It might be loosely based on the circuit but I think I want something that's more 'traditional' as I've already got some oscillating fuzzes.

Yeah if you're just looking for a standard-ish superfuzz I don't think it's the one.

So I ‘watched’ an Idiotbox Dungeon Master shipping from my country last week after reading this thread, I wake up this morning and the seller has offered 20% off just because I had it in my watch list..... so I’m a Super Fuzz guy now?

Perfect. I would do the same in that circumstance.

Reverb knows how to temp my “buy button”. I’m fuckin’ so stoked on this. And 1/2 the price of an FZ-2!

Dungeon Master is a great sounding, if non-traditionally Superfuzz, fuzz! :doom:

As far as the FZ-2 goes...I.actually think it has Bee Baa pedrigree, instead of Superfuzz. The "real" superfuzz clones I tried, sounded closer to my vintage Ibanez Standard fuzz. The Wattson one comes to mind. It's a close as they come, both in terms of tones as in aesthetics. The FZ-2 is way more agressive than an FY-2, more buzz, in a good kinda way. More sustain, sounds more agressive and menacing. Powerful eq, a stupid loud boost mode,...Cuts through a mix like a battle axe through a fresh corpse.

With the insane prices for FZ-2's these days, it makes a ton of sense to go with the Behringer clone. Rehouse it if you want, and give it the grpahics of your choice :idk:

Or if it's a superfuzz you're after, there's plenty of good affordable options out there. Never tried 'em, but those clones by Fredric or Malekko,...Seems ligit, no?
Also, a brand I don't think anyone mensioned yet: Maxon. The Air and Ether are supposed to be high quality clones. Or if you don't mind breaking out the old soldering iron, you could save yourself a couple bucks and order a kit for a BYOC Leeds.

There's one mahfakker on my fuzz pedlol wish list that I can't for the life of me find for a non-insane price: Guyatone TZ-2

How well does the Dungeon Master handle non-powerchord chords? The byoc superfuzz clone I have muds up chords pretty bad with lots of clashing overtones and such.

Beebaa and Superfuzz are completely different circuits.

And if you look at the circuit schematics, the FZ2 is a Superfuzz, only with a active 2 band EQ after the normal SF part.
What make the sound difference are the clipping diodes: vintage SFs use germanium, while the FZ2 uses silucium, which is why FZ2 sounds more thick.

Those Maxon Fuzz Elements pedals look also very interesting! I never tried them out, but Ether and Fire were on my wishlist few times.

The Ether looks super cool. Love parametric EQs.

I'm a big fan of the Basic Audio Super Fuzz. The tone control, half gain switch, and octave switch really open up a bunch of fresh territory over the original Super Fuzz.
