I'm bummed there's apparently no HM-2W, but I'm also thrilled LW had a meltdown for absolutely no reason.

This thread has all the drama of the old mega threads in two pages. We just need some prominent cloner to come defend themselves

Absolutely bizarre that an HM-2 and a space echo are prominently featured in the teaser video and what was released has nothing to do with either

Doubtful. It took Bill Finnegan 15 years to sell that many Klons and that was the most wildly successful boutique pedal for a long long time.

I read it's fully digital :(

The lack of stereo in it kind of bothers me... I'll probably still gonna buy it.

Kind of hilarious, too. For most companies, when watchers are expecting a pair of releases and they get 7 releases, that'd be a triumphant cause for celebration. Since people were left wanting, it took away from what could've been an otherwise emphatic launch.

I kind of feel like an HM-2W is inevitable at this point, but it was odd to tease that here---especially since the specs on the OD-200 don't explicitly state there's an HM-2 algo in there. The official product page doesn't explain the 12 modes, nor is there a manual online for this model. The tape setting on the 200 is a Space Echo bank...so it's there in spirit.

Roland is so obsessed with their past, though, that they feel the need to constantly remind people, "Hey, we're Roland, remember what we did for you guys in the 70s & 80s?" They've been such a punchline in the synth community for years with all their digital tributes to their former analog glory. They hype new releases and then totally bungle them---it's entirely their own fault. People would be happier with all-new, digital Roland concepts rather than watered-down echoes of their glory days. For them to do the SE-02, they had to contract out and essentially release a modernized Minimoog.

Even though BOSS is a Roland company, by and large I'd say they've been able to avoid some of these same hiccups---today was not one of those days. I also think we didn't see an RV-200, because that is outselling all the other 500 models. This was likely Roland's way of saving face---they've got so much tied up in those products, but if they're stagnant, then they've got to find ways to update them to generate revenue.

I'm kind of baffled that the Slicer is still made. Other companies would've updated it multiple times by now, but not BOSS.

They are doing it cuz of my pedal...which I did because of their pedal.

He should be thanking Sunlight Studios and the $75 Peavey combo amp if he’s going to thank anyone that people are willing to pay $300 for a distortion pedal :p

(Rather than thanking himself if that wasn’t clear!)
