Really good question. Ask your friend what he thinks the estimated value of it is and what he's looking to get in return for it. Maybe we'll have to poll some users on this one.

I'll likely add a quick and dirty good-enough-for-now filter/search pretty soon. It's already getting a little hard to find something that I might want to look up from a week ago or something like that. Maybe just a filter by pedal effect type, or guitar, synth, amp, other for now at least. But what was the Magic site? I haven't seen other people doing the matching thing and would definitely like to get some ideas from a site that's already doing it. Especially if theyre doing it well. Anyway, if the site still exists, let me know. I'd love to check it out. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, if you put cards on your "have/want list", they basically just have a little link for you up near your PMs that lets you see people with compatible lists. When you click on it, it pulls up a list of those people and for each one says how many cards they have that you want, and vice versa, and you can click their names to pull up a comparative list. The site also has a trade value evaluation tool where you can paste two lists of cards into it and it pulls data from ebay and online store sales and tells you instantly what it's all worth, so you can see if it's a fair trade.

In case you're not familiar with Magic, here's a list of card names you could put in to a dummy trade list that'll likely yield you some matches:
Tarmogoyf
Ensnaring Bridge
Volcanic Island
Rekindling Phoenix
Carnage Tyrant
Dark Confidant
Cryptic Command
Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Search For Azcanta
Hazoret the Fervent
Chandra, Torch of Defiance

Thank you! Checking it out now. Definitely some cool ideas which I think we can adapt for us too, hopefully make it a little more user friendly too.

Thanks so much!

Jace, the Mind Sculptor is legal in Modern. I bow to our new overlord.

Hey, I just wanted to update everyone to let you know that we just added a search filter to the site!
I know a lot of people here were asking for it, so now you can filter by effect type, guitar, bass, amp or anything like that. It should make browsing through everything easier and more more manageable. We were planning on waiting until after we finished our app to do anything like this, but since the site has been growing and there has been an increase in uploads, we had to do something sooner than anticipated. I guess that's a good problem though

.
Anyway, hope this filter helps. I know we still need to do a proper full fledged search, but I think this will be more than enough for the time being. And as always, please let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks everyone!

That's definitely a start!
This isn't showing up with the "other" filter, though, probably because it's not brand name (another thing to think about, actually; lots of music gear is homemade or otherwise not mass produced):

Also, are you planning to add more pedal categories? Maybe fuzz/delay/reverb? Most of the current pedal filters are for much less common types of pedals, and the "all effects and pedals" filter may as well just be "all listings" at the moment, as pedals seem to be the vast majority of current listings.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I finalized details on my first trade through the site today!

Haha, yeah it's definitely just a start! We will definitely do something more in depth once we finish the app – this was just kind of a stopgap solution for now. Awesome that you made your first trade! Always exciting to see the site getting more use

.
Anyway… the item you mention is marked as "Effects and Pedals > Pedalboards" which is why it doesn't come up under "Other", since it has been categorized more specifically already. Categorizations are up to the person who listed the gear though, so it could be placed under "Other" if that person decided to categorize it that way. I'll also add the ability to add more than one category so something like this could potentially live in "Other" and "Pedalboards" in the future. Also, since the categories are up to the user it shouldn't matter if they are homemade or not. Just tag it however you want when you create. Some of the confusion is also probably because we don't display the category on the listing yet. I still need to add that so that it would have been more clear that it was in fact already categorized. Hope that made sense…
As far as adding more categories, there should already be a lot! Fuzz Delay and Reverb are certainly already there. You just have to click "Filter" and then "Effects and Pedals" and then you should get a whole list that you can scroll through. Is it maybe not clear that the list is scrollable on mobile? I can certainly try to make that more apparent!

Yeah there’s a ton of effect pedal categories. Worked fine on mobile for me. I’m hoping to list some stuff in the next day or two. Here first by a day, then soundlot, then reverb if no action after a few. My personal preferences haha

Oh, okay. Yeah, it wasn't clear to me that you could scroll through a list. I just saw "amp modeling", "bass pedals", "buffer", "chorus", and "compression". It felt like a weird list if I were only going to choose five different types of effects. I also see that "pedalboards" is a category in that list too, which invalidates my other comment. I only mentioned "other" because there didn't seem to me to be a category for pedalboards. User-selected categories makes sense. I just assumed that you were pulling categories from a database, since the homemade item appeared to me not to be showing up and I remembered that the brand and model fields for listings seemed to be making suggestions from a database.
Anyway, ignore me.

That works for me! Glad you're getting some use out it! I assume everything went well with your last trade?

Haha. No no, if you didn't realize it was scrollable I'm SURE other people are having similar issues! I'll definitely try to make it more clear. I think the issue is really that the whole drop down interface is much more of a web interface than a mobile interface. So it definitely feels a bit strange when using it on mobile. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. It's definitely helpful. And yeah, I wish we had a database that linked pedals with category — we actually just went through and manually categorized everything for this first round, haha. Was a bit of a pain, but now people should be able to do it on their own so we don't have to do it again! haha. Thanks again.
