I'm pretty sure I could make a functional board made up entirely by EHX, Digitech (including DOD) or even BOSS pedals (of which I currently own zero), but it would sure take the fun out of the word functional

If Chase Bliss had a reverb, I'd be able to manage the all CB board. It'd be kind of a waste of features, though, since I'm pretty sure they don't make a MIDI controller.

Fairfield for sure. I could see myself with a couple different versions of a 3-6 pedal board from them and being very satisfied.

Or smallsound/briansound, but only if he made me a No Memory & Pretty Years

I think it's reasonable to consider a midi controller as a "utility" item, outside the one brand concept. You could put midi controllers on a lot of different setups and there are companies that only make midi control systems and no effects. A tuner doesn't actually apply an effect to a sound, same with an ABY, neither does a midi controller.

On that note, with a midi controller (actually still works with all one brand anyway), you could do an all Source Audio board. Since all the One Series pedals contain all the engines of each individual pedal and can be programmed with multiple engine chains. They're also all stereo and can do true stereo or dual mono, so you could potentially configure 2 parallel chains or even say run multiple instances of types of effects in one chain. None of the pedalboard builders have the new reverb from them, unfortunately, but it's the same format/size as the Nemesis.

Some room for the other midi controller gear they don't have on the builder (Neuro link or something?), a tuner, maybe that programmable EQ they have, and some Altoids tins.

I could get by with BMF too. Colorsound Wah iteration, couple Ge Spots, Godfather III, aries fuzz, decho box, liquid sky, done.

Hologram & Meris are two of my favorite companies, but with (2) & (3) pedals respectively I can't nominate them for an homogeneous experience at this time. I could get by with at least 13 brands, however, all of these lines are missing 2-3 things (flanger/phaser/Echorec-style delay/modulated reverb). I would have to double up in other areas as a means of compensation/experimentation.

There really is no perfect company doing everything. My favorite, analog-heavy lines aren't going to produce Leslie simulators or glitch pedals, and my favorite DSP lines aren't going to make BBD delays or distortion units that can make people forget about the Sherman Filterbank.

Alexander (modulation, delay, & reverb offerings are all solid)
Catalinbread (mix of weird & functional, missing phaser)
Chase Bliss (missing reverb, but could stack delays for an ambient wash)
Diamond (better modulation than BOSS & has dirt/delay, reverb is limited)
Earthquaker (has nearly everything I need, would prefer a more experimental phaser & a flanger)
Empress (counting Zoia, they should have essentially everything covered. They make great modulation & reverb/delay pedals.)
Hungry Robot (no phaser or flanger, but I like their delays & verbs. intuitive & compatible with a lot of gear)
Moog (everything but reverb & multi-head delays)
Mr. Black (solid in modulation, delay/ambient territory)
Robert Keeley (with the Bubbletron, Echoes, & studio reverbs, they can back up a lot of synth rigs)
Source Audio (flexible line, especially strong in features & pricing. underrated for filter & modulation)
Strymon (as a synth user, dirt isn't a big priority & although I prefer Meris for reverb/delay, the overall Strymon line is fairly useful)
TC Electronic (not a lot that wows me, but their stuff is functional, affordable, and covers a lot of ground)

def not BOSS, though. I own some BOSS stuff (which I like), but they're like a cheaper version of Diamond (who makes a better vibrato, better phaser, and a better chorus). I can't think of a single BOSS pedal that's not replaceable. (RE-20 < a plethora of other multi-engine delays...DM-2 < Memory Man, Meet Maude...VB-2 < Warped Vinyl, Shallow Water....Slicer < Dream Sequence, Tremotron, etc.)

I'll throw out Dwarfcraft as an honorable mention, since the Curse, HAX2 & Ghost Fax haven't reached the public yet. I think I'd be fairly pleased with an all-Dwarfcraft board. (Grazer, Happiness + some combination of modulation/delay...still missing flanger & reverb)

DC-2, SG-1, a $22 metal distortion? :joy:

I'd get a SY-300 and never buy another fx, but that's like cheating.

My actual board outside of the fuzzboxes is already a walking Boss/Roland endorsement.

Black arts toneworks. All of his pedals on a board. I'd miss my reverb but fuck it.

If you turned all of 'em on at once, it might just sound like reverb. :snax:

You have to keep in mind, though, that BOSS came up with the Slizer at a time when noone expected something like this. If I'm not completely wrong it was the first of its kind and back then there haven't been that many pedal makers. I'm sure that it was a model that influenced the other companies and home breeders a lot. At this point we can't blame BOSS for not having it nailed perfectly at first - pioneering! - try. :hobbes:

But I get what you mean! ;)

Since I'd need an oscillating fuzz and a glitch pedal, I can only really think of Dwarfcraft.

She Fuzz > Grazer > Minivan

Edit: Oh, maybe Copilot? Are mods allowed if the builder does it?

Yep, you could just have a builder custom build you an entire board, if they build all the types of pedals you need. It's not as fun to theorize and harder to mock up, but well within the parameters of the concept.

If my main builder could do a guitar synth and a couple delay units, no problem.

Only thing stopping me there is...well, I'm not paying for 30 years of R&D and expecting one guy to do it.
