Oh my... this is a toughie. Some of my favorite bands in the universe only have two or three albums I really love. So I think I'm going to go for some kind of mish-mash combo of range, quality & quantity:
Beatles
Metallica (if only because I need the Cliff-era albums... I could use the newer stuff for frisbees)
Miles Davis
John Coltrane
Cordelia's Dad (from my college days - appalachian folk meets punk & Sonic Youth noise raveups)
Yo La Tengo
Mark Lanegan (if I can be so bold as to include The Screaming Trees and all of his solo stuff)
Wilco
The Beastie Boys
Fugazi
