Damn, I never realized how cheap used x100b's go for. I've never played one but this thread has me curious. I have an 80's carvin 4x12 that kinda needs one to sit on top of it. Which version do I get? 80's? Reissue?

The carpet head has some sweet distortion. The early 80s versions have a more flabby distortion.

I recorded some sounds for it ... this is just noodling, no structure/finesse here just trying to show some range of sounds ...

Either version is fine. The graphic eq can get you some really good full, bold cleans- esp since it comes post pre-amp in the circuit. It’s a budget ampeg v-4 in my mind and can nail that sound really well, but it can do some other sounds as well. The distortion isn’t that good, but it’s mostly bc the dial eq is shared and the graphic eq is assigned to one or the other channels, so it’s not easy to tweak a good sound for both channels. That said, it takes pedals well and a good od or distortion can get the ampeg grind or whatever else you need.

Btw, played the x1 through the front end of a 1x12 combo amp and it sounded much much better! My power amp’s need of a balanced line in takes away some dynamics
