Re: Favorite Octave Fuzz
Echoing the Green Ringer love. The Fuzzhugger Phantom Arcade is an amazing octave fuzz, part Ringer octave up, part weird, subdued octave down.
Tend to prefer starved oscillating fuzzes for octave down. The Wolf Computer is amazing for this, as is the She Fuzz.

But my favorite has to be fuzzhugger upper into any fuzz you like and already have. Could use another green ringer too but I really like the control on the upper

I definitely think the green ringer + dirt combo is more versatile than any octave fuzz I've played. Ringer solo has an awesome gated ring mod-esque tone that works for weird stuff and even some pretty stuff. Then you slam it with some dirt and it sounds like a robot being violated. Which is sort of the sound I was looking for all along.

i should really try a tone machine clone coz I really love the Prescription Experience in demo's and when seeing people gig them but they're unobtanium.

I need to build a Percolator.. People talk about them pretty highly and there's numerous GE and SI builds for them.. Anyone recommend a DIY circuit? Maybe I'll build it into the same box as another Green ringer with an order switch and each selectable via swootswitch for maximum shenanigans.

Not sure about diy percs, but make sure you can lift the diodes. There is no other perc besides no diodes IMO

I found a mojo schematic with the PNP germanium, and I just happen to have a large bag of them coming from Russia right now..neonblack wrote:Not sure about diy percs, but make sure you can lift the diodes. There is no other perc besides no diodes IMO

When I eventually get a Fuck, I want to run a green ringer before it for maximum guitar death noises.

Re: Favorite Octave Fuzz
Don't have a ton of boutique nor vintage experience as far as octave fuzz peds go, but my personal favorites as far as octave up:
Superfuzz (though I prefer my FZ-2, which isn't octave-y at all), Ibanez standard Fuzz, FM-2. Obviously refering to clones and diy versions of those three circuits.
Octave down:
- Harmonic Percolator (subtle, but never over-the-top, always super useable and flatout gnarly without being really gainy/saturated).
- Bluebox. Cause it's small, cheap, and blue. Not for everyone though, it's unpredictable and glitchy, which imo is half the fun. Not tweakable, and the fuzz is pretty weak and thin by itself. I'd love to try one of the slightly improved boutique alternatives someday.
I have an old DOD octaplus on my board these days. Gives me the freedom of sandwiching it with whatever dirt pedals I want, or just stacking it with the HP.

Re: Favorite Octave Fuzz
This sound is all over my band's songs. I'll try to get a recording of last practice. My dirt section is Percolator - Ringer - Fuck.Inconuucl wrote:Demo?coldbrightsunlight wrote:This is one of my favourite sounds.Inconuucl wrote:When I eventually get a Fuck, I want to run a green ringer before it for maximum guitar death noises.
