Sort of meant that more along the lines of really clean. Not so much the noisy end, I should have clarified.

Actually, for clean and noisy. Look no further than DNA and UT!
For brutally clean (maybe just high treble?) this album has always been a favorite.

What about finding some lo-fi pedal that degrades the sound without lots of distortion and then a EQ pedal after it all super scooped and then lots and lots of compression

Making it dirty means it is no longer a clean sound, it's now a lofi sound. clearness will get you far more of an intense and even uncomfortable sound then degrading it, you have to make the warts in what you are playing louder and more in your face... So if you need a pedals eq and compression. If you get into more wanting a fucking huge sound that can swallow things, eq, reverb, compression, reverb, compression

Yeah, "lo-fi" generally equals either bitcrush/sample-rate reduction or distortion of the signal.
I think something like parallel filters would be a cool addition (like DBA's Evil Filter where the high-pass filter set all the way open actually introduces a lower-octave effect with the resonance set high enough).
Also, compression is definitely a solid suggestion, didn't even think about that.

It does...something to the cleans set at unity that makes shit big and heavy sounding (to me at least) - push the volume a bit and you can really ride that clean/dirty thing ala Tom Petty and/or Kowloon Walled City. Work has slowed down for me (finally and thankfully) so hopefully we can make that happen soon.
Holy shi. How did i neglect Kowloon?
But also, EP preamps like the Arrows are legit.

I was gonna suggest a real loud sparkly boost, or a dist+ set loud and clean, then let the weirdness come from the pick attack or the intervals. The kowloon walled city suggestion nails it. I used to have a devi ever punch hate that was perfect for that kind of thing.

Yeah, to Kowloon it just get a VTM120/Traynor Mk3, a BD-2, Speaker Cranker, and MC401.

Holy shit, thanks for all the suggestions guys! I'm looking at getting a Quilter 101 at some point. The amp I'm playing through now doesn't do clean and loud. Just one or the other.
I was originally going to use my Mini at the very end set only slightly dirty as an always-on preamp type thing but now I'm not so sure. I've been gassing for a Gray Channel pretty hard too.
I also thought about having an accountant but I don't want to have to hit an extra switch to go clean, and I'm not sure about leaving it on all the time. Maybe though.
And I wouldn't mind a spring verb. Maybe the supernatural and I'd have some other modes to play around with.
Trey, we definitely need to hang soon! I started a second job but it doesn't take all my time. I still have a little free time here and there. I've always been curious about the Arrows...
I'll try to find some examples of what I'm trying to do.

Yeah dude - KWC is all sorts of great. Is the Arrows an Echoplex preamp? Have I become a dadblooze douchebag? Do I have to migrate to TGP now?

Quilter 101 is in my "next GAS" list as well.

I might not totally get what you're talking about, but I love what the dmm preamp does for cleans. If you're thinking of a little delay added anyway, it's such a sick delay pedal. But you can dial back the delay as much as you want and the preamp just adds such a nice grit. And if you want to get a little weirder the chorus/vibrato is awesome. I love that pedal. I got a great deal on mine, but I would pay more for one. I have the 90's big box which is true bypass and works perfectly for what I need. I play it through an old Marshall with a ghost echo after it and it's perfect to me for cleans. Although I haven't been using cleans much recently.

As far as Kowloon Walled City goes, didn't they have/make their own pedal, "Kowloon Walled Bunny", or did I just dream that up?
Edit: Nope, apparently I didn't.
