My son :
Noam Akazin
Friends sons names I totally dig:
Arto
Cosmo
Nemo
Rock (duh!)
I think it also very much depends on the last name that goes with it, or if you give several names that the whole thing has a nice ring to it.
So here's a few flavor-names to pair with more vanilla firstnames I could go for if I had the right last name and/or occasion:
Miles
Morgan
Jeremiah
Amadeus
Akira
Azimuth
Nepomuk
Buster
Hunter
Zeno

Ø as in Early, but move the back of your tounge, which is not close to the velar position more towards the hard palate and slightly lower your tounge to the middle of your mouth.
R as in....oh fuck. I'm not sure you have this r-sound in the American accent. The tounge is in the alveolar position rather than retroflex. Start with an American r and slightly sharpen your tounge and place the tounge tip close to the back of your teeth and apply the same amount of air.
EN as in men
I think I got that but when I go to say it it sounds like "See-er-en", so, no I don't.
Girls names are infinitely easier.
My daughter went from being Lilica (my long term favourite) to Abbigail (my wife's) to Azaria, to just Zaria.
I wait to see my kids and get to know them for a day or two before we make the final decision.
My son's middle name is Louis.
But not like "Lewis".
I suck at boys names but Im a big fan of simple, stoic sounding first names.
Men need names that they can carry their whole lives. I don't agree with names to grow into.
For the record i hate my name.

I think the "r" is harder/faster but the slash-o))) makes it like "sear".
But, we're probably both wrong ).

Wouldn't that make it an "Urrr" sound? Or do Aussies pronounce early differently?

Actually, youre right.
We pronounce everything as a long, drawn out, nasal drawl, so it is definitely wrong.

My wife and I agreed that for our kid we wanted a traditional name, nothing really common but also nothing trendy or weird. We named our daughter Beatrice Rose.
If we'd had a boy my two favourites were Conan or Fox.

Boy names are hecka hard.
I apply a three fold principle to naming.
1) has to be cute to say with your new baby and toddler
2) has to not get them beat up or set up for lazy nicknames that they will hate.
3) has to not be embarrassing for their professional life.
My girls are Pearl and Frances. No clue what I would name a boy. My wife is set on James though.
