That is certainly true when it comes to some obsessive creatives (filmmakers, composers, studio artists), but I don't think it applies in this case. Pretty sure he's just a goober who thinks nothing can exceed a Tonebender, Tubescreamer, Univibe, and Fender amp modulation. (just an antiquated purist who resists progress) Second of all, I think he's fucking lying. I don't believe for a moment he's gone 25 years without playing anyone else's designs. I think his statement was not only dishonest and deliberately disrespectful to much of the industry, but exceedingly snarky and pretentious. Then again, maybe he thinks it's cute to troll the music press by playing up his dickhead reputation.

Fuller is the Trump of pedal builders.

Fucking micro managers, man. Some people just have to be involved in everything, regardless of the outcome.
jrfox92 wrote:Also, am I the only one that finds it funny that he "hasn't tried any pedals in the last 25 years"?
How'd you come up with the designs for all your clones, then?

Well, that's the thing, bud. You've gotta really read his statement carefully.
The only effects–related products by other companies I have tried in the last 25 years
He can willfully borrow from other builders---as long as they're ancient circuits or recent reworkings from non-professional pedal enthusiasts.
You don't need to copy anyone current in your biz, if all you do is rework the meat-and-potatoes, session hero staples: TS, Tonebender, amp modulation, clean boost, Univibe.

I think that's Behringer. Fuller is no saint, but he doesn't pretend to be a regular Joe either.
Both T & B pretend like they've had it so hard (one a billionaire, the other a millionaire). They both talk about fairness and competition, yet both of them have labor forces in China (where minimum wage is about $2.07 per hour and not always enforced). Also, both have reputations for being terrible bosses with lousy office culture (see occupational social media sites).

For reverb to write this article you think they would've received his answer and been like, "we're not publishing this, somebody get that weirdo for Eau Claire on the phone..."

His customer service is awesome.
I recently wanted to buy some rubber feet for an early Bass-Drive, which had a missing foot. He has a page with an extensive drop-down menu of rubber feet for his various pedals. I emailed him with the code I thought I needed to order, to verify, since there are a lot.
His reply had no text but a screenshot of the rubber foot product screen that he had imported into Paint and then crudely circled the phrase, "This 4-pack of rubber feet is what you need if you've lost the ones from your FD2, GT500, older large-box 69, 70, SoulBender, Supa-Trem, etc."
No mention of bass-drive, which I guess I should have known was the same as the FD2. In his screenshot he didn't select the correct feet from the drop down so if I had literally followed his instructions I would have ordered stick-on feet.
I admire his dedication. How much of his time did it take to create that work of art, compared to simply typing, "Screw on FMRF-4 for FD2"?

There's way more claims of bad experiences from his versus good. I'm glad you had a good one though.
I've always wanted to try a few things from him, but his attitude from what I've seen and read, has stopped me.
Maybe I'll try a used pedal of his and see what it's like. I mean, I already own pedals from a few well known douche bags, what's one more right?

I've had a bunch of stuff of his over the years, all before hearing anything about him being a dick. Customer service, in the very few instances I've dealt wth them, has been fine—not particularly good or bad.
I haven't bought anything from him in quite a while, not because of anything I've heard about him, but just because there are so many more good builders now. Sucks to hear he's a turd, though. And yep, I always thought the 100K of R&D for the TTE sounded absurd.
The one real standout thing I think he makes is the Supa-Trem 2. It's rill good.

TBH I think the biggest takeaway from the article is how fucking milquetoast a lot of those builders' tastes are

Yea...they kind of don't dig weird shit or at least it's not their favorite.
The one who has the best opinion is sadly Josh. LOL. The H9 is the shit and can do anything from weird to normal.

I loled at the picture of Josh. The smugness is real.
