My MIT HM-2 is exactly like that. Experimented stacking my Rat into it when I got it, wasn't minding common sense in the Rat's level, and practically coldcocked myself deactivating the Boss. The HM-2 compresses hot input signals like a motherfucker.

Trying stacking other gain and high output stuff in line after it, not before. If you want to mod it, changing the diode type to LEDs generally does raise the level in most distortion pedals, but it will change the distortion character a bit.
