I keep telling myself this. Nobody is actually going to know the difference between an RV-3 and a real spring verb, especially pre-dirt, especially in a noise rock band.

The problem with those real spring units in pedal sizes is they sound so tiny and anemic because the springs are so short. One reason why reverb in amps sounds so good is because they have large tanks/long springs, the shorter the springs are the weirder and kind of weaker/less interesting the verb sounds. The tanks in AC15s are about 10 inches long and sound like crap. Fender reverb units in things like deluxe reverbs are probably twice as long. I had a recovery pedal that used that small accutronics spring tank and I think he tried to boost it or something to make the reverb stronger but the reverb was either kind of nonexistent or it just made this crazy ass cacophony of pure reverb resonating feedback so no actual notes could be identified by my tympanic membranes.

Is there an adaptor or something for those big box holy grails so I can run it on a daisy chain or a power brick?

They need ~500mA, so I wouldn't try doing that unless you had an Ojai.

Ugh. I have no clue what I want to do. I'm wondering how much of a difference it's even going to make. I just started playing with these guys and all I've had to work with is dirt pedals so far. We really only have one song and the only effect I've wished for is a delay. I think I'll probably get the results I'm looking for running a short delay into a drive.
I need to think cheap and efficient. The big box Grail is cool and sounds good but for a little more I could get a doc sci reverberator. So maybe I'll look for a delay for now and then come back to the reverb thing later? Is it going to make a difference in a live setting?
I don't fucking know.

How much are you willing to spend?
I have the Hungry Robot Starlite, I don't need it even though I love it. I'd let you have it for a 100 shipped if you want it dude. It's a v1, so only 3 knobs, but the v2 is basically 200 bones.
Let me know if you're interested!

Thanks! I won't actually be able to spend money on this for a couple weeks. I'm mostly just window shopping and thinking of ideas and shit at this point.

I haven't had a chance to play one yet, but I thought the samples I heard of the new MXR verb sounded surprisingly really good.
EDIT yikes—that thing's 200 bucks. Buy something else.
