Just curious because I've never played one of those -- what makes it "terrible"?

They haven no soul?
No but really they just don't sound good. They all seem to lack character somehow.
I've owned two of their big boxes and like three of their standalone's plus tried the Janus and none of them wowed me. They were boring and sounded bad. Especially with bass, I might add.

Ok sure--but 11 of those 15 are (if not outright grown here) heavily associated with ILF. And two of those remaining are Z Vex pedals. Overall I think its a remarkably flattering list, and think it'd be cool to see more folks drawn to these kinds of things.
Or maybe not. Clubs need to be exclusive to remain clubb-y. Depends on what you want.

Also worth noting that the premise is fairly noble--I don't read 'change the way you play guitar' as an exercise in blowing peoples' minds...more like 'you won't be able to effectively play Zep riffs/licks if you use these pedals.' Which is basically the main quality I look for when picking one thing over another.

Oh I was just talking about the CISDMan in specific.

My problem with the list has much more to do with the fact that the author doesn't seem to have actually played at least half of them.

I think that ILF is becoming mainstream and what we like is no longer niche at all.

We have to dig deeper.

I think the Tonal Recall's a weird one to include on the list? Sure, it's really flexible, but it's not something that forces you to play any differently, or even explore new sounds. It mostly just lets you do wibble-wobbles better than almost any other analog delay.
I feel like there're knowledge and music taste barriers that keep people out. You have to have a fairly good understanding of how both normal and "weird" effects work to contribute here, really.
I think we have lots of lurkers who don't post much because they literally don't know what we're talking about; like, if you have trouble understanding a boss dd3 you might not have much to say when people here talk about all the weird/glitchy/pitch-shitty delay features we love and want. If you think your ts9/solid state amp combo sounds THICK you might really hate and/or be confused by the 1000 flavors of fuzzzz people here seem to enjoy.
It you pretty much exclusively listen to the top 20 you're probably not going to want to explore the weirdness that this forum seeethes either. And you're not going to be interested in 90% of the sounds we like here.

I'm sure that UC can elaborate more, but it's a delay pedal with a random stutter thrown in. One of the knobs adds the amount of stutter to the delay signal... so it can be used as a straight delay pedal.
But as a pure stutter pedal you have to deal with this delay that keeps getting in the way as I couldn't figure out a way to just get it to stutter. So maybe it's cool to someone out there, it was just frustrating to me.

It's uncontrollable/illogical/unpredictable in the bad way. It might as well have been a delay with random delay time on each repeat. It was just a mess. The stutters were ear-piercing as well. Too shrill. And whenever it decided to go nuts and self-oscillate, you would have a very bad time.
