lol. sort of? i have a 4 rack space built into my computer desk buuuuut.... i'm so tight with space i have controllers and keyboards in front of it.
i AM liking the idea of a multi input interface that also has outs and a patchbay so i can wobble multiple pedal runs for effects loops. and i think i have room on the floor under my shelvings for a 2 or 4 space rack.
soooooo.... i guess fuck the Cheapie part of this thread, looking at the Zoom UAC-8. going New Computer Shopping next week, would love to have a USB 3 interface. and it has line outs so i think that means i can run for processing?

USB 3 isn't something I'd jump up on as a "pay a premium for" standard honestly.
Anything 2+ will work.

lol. thank you Evo Buds!
Rfurhfhfhklempt - usb 3 is way faster though no? wouldn't that give one more throughput and/or take less stress off audio signal processing? i wouldn't spend hundy after hundy after hundy more to go from. 2 to 3, but i can TOTES tell the difference on data transfer with external hdd's, so it seems like that would translate with audio shenanigans as well?
udf. yeah. defo new pc time. with 3 vst tracks at once i'm getting clicks and dropouts. woot.

How much would a used RME UCX set you back over there?
As solid as they come in the support department on USB2 with 8 i/o in a super compact package.
Serious quality. Could definitely justify the extra $ especially used for such a quality jump IMO. Probably comparable to anything usb3 pricewise right?

jia. i'm running a pc, so needs to stay usb, NO FIREWIRE. CAN'T STAND FIREWIRE. SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH CHIPSETS AND CARDS AND EXPENSIVE CABLES AND I HAVE NOT HAD GOOD LUCK WITH FIREWIRE DEVICES.
oof.

You're still not moving that much data - 2 was good enough for 16+ 24/96 to 24/192 without issue.
It's faster on big data transfers, but we're talking about files in real time that aren't even approaching the bottleneck.

innnnnteresting. cool! will keep usb 2 in the POOL OF INTERFACES.
i've just always run on the idea that you should buy the fastest you can afford. especially with computer based system'y things. every little bit helps...... more video ram to take strain off the cpu, fastest drives and interfaces and whatever.

The UCX has both USB2 and FireWire ports, so you can just use the USB option.

Shit that's wat they cost new here in AUS. I just assumed that second hand in the USA would be way cheaper, like everything else but maybe not.
The M-Audio could be cool. I would personally rather go the PRESONUS 1818 or maybe the Roland Octa-Capture which are in the same ballpark here in AUS, M-Audio stuff just always rubbed me wrong for some reason. Maybe just don't like the design or something but the freak me out a bit.
I think the Keith McMillan K-Mix could be mad too. Very Visual. Access to sends and returns and stuff off the front panel for FX integration.
