Yarr the Clusterfuzz is pretty sweet and can definitely achieve this with the 8-bit knob. Really cool pedal. Can do a damn good Rat impression too. Would love to see these guys come out with something even crazier.

The first 20 seconds of that song is like listening to electric sex. I've replayed it over and over again at times. So. Fuck. ing. Good.

Anyways, I always assumed it was some sort of Muff pedal 'coz I know J. Mascis is some sort of Muff aficionado and I swore that I read they used one of his pedals for that. I dunno. I was probably high. I'm probably high now. Anyways, on the cheap, the DOD Carcosa is supposed to be "velcroy," but I dunno coz I'm just a dumb 4 stringer and my shit never sounds like that, anyways.

I just remembered, there's a demo clip of the Mr. Black Darling Fuzz where they play "Seer":

http://www.mrblack.jackdeville.com/audi ... z-seer.mp3

It's part of the reason that convinced me to get one. It's definitely loud and noisy and fuzzy. May not be as velcro-y as you'd like though. There's usually a few that can be had on Reverb for not too much $. :idk:

UMMMMMMM FZ2 CLONE WITH INCREASED INSANITY? SIGN ME UP! I don't even care if it doesn't do the velcroy stuff, this will be my next dirt pedal.
Check it out. It moves into more velcro territory around the one minute mark.

Get on this now. The bot mode lets you get all the filtery loving you need.

There are two SICK finishes available at the moment. If you are going to use it live get the big box version - I kept stepping on both stomps by accident with the small box.

+1 to the Velcrobot, one of the most amazing pedals I own.
If the Velcrobot isn't everything you want in a velcroy fuzz, I'll ban myself.
still need to try out one of these and a suneater. those two sound pretty rad.

I would agree with the Big Muff suggestion given J. Mascis has quite the collection of vintage units. In addition to amplification, his choice of pickups likely affects how the fuzz sustains during the onset of the track in question.

Something based on the Ram's Head Big Muff would probably do the trick. If you are looking for a cheaper option, Biyang makes a few 3 mode Muff fuzzes that are highly regarded in most reviews. The Maxon Fuzz Elements Earth can sometimes be scored cheaply used, and there are numerous up and coming boutique builders who post various Muff clones on Reverb from time to time.

This is from an ILF builder. The Seer riff starts at about 3:00 minutes. More velcro than female on female tribadism.

The main reason I didn't post this clip or hyped this pedal more in my first respond on this thread, is that I've been singing the Clusterfuzz praise so much here at ilf it might start to look like I'm affiliated with Function fx. I'm not, unfortunatelly.

It's been THE dirt box of the last 2 years for me. Not that I bought enough to make any sort of claim, but still...If there's any fuzz box that deserves to be described as "versatile", it's the Clusterfuzz imo. Killed my GAS for fuzz, it even made me fall out if love with the Big Muffs and the FZ-2 I've been using for the last 15 years. It allows me to rock a smaller pedalboard, with less dirt peds.

They're working on a smaller version btw, might have an even better price:useability ration :idk:

Sure the blend control and extra footswitch are nice, but aside from those diy-esque mods it's basically a $200 FZ-2 clone that trades in the boost mode for 'russian klon diodes' and purty graphics, no? :idk:
oh. there's no boost mode? damn. still interested though.
for some reason there's not enough fz-2 pedals up here to make it "used boss pedal" cheap. they go for boutique prices (though not for $200, but like $120-150ish) and don't pop up that often. so might as well pay the boutique price for a boutique pedal instead.
$120 isn't that bad, depending on your currency, is it? 100Euro is doable here. If you want I could probably hook you up :idk:

If you were, I think you'd be aware that they've changed the name to "Finktion".
