The Beatstep is great — did you get a Pro? That's the one I have, so I'm not sure about the differences between the two models.
Just go over the manual and you'll find that it's a super intuitive little box, and it's VERY useful. The only remote PITA I've experienced was routing it to control different MIDI instruments simultaneously in Logic, but even that turned out to be a lot less complicated than some quick Googling initially suggested.
You can use that to sequence your Pocket Piano for sure—just plug it in and it'll probably work without any fiddling or assigning of specific MIDI channels, etc. I tried that with my Organelle (now sold) and it worked right away. Lotsa fun.
