the roland sp-404 sx sampler was the first peice of gear that helped my early projects get cohesiveness ..putting tracks together then in ''realtime'' cut them into cd-rs playing straight into a vinyl to cd-r recorder...but it took tons of layering to make their effects interesting...if youve ever used the 404 you know how wierd and wtf the fxs are like...when they updated their samplers i was madly disappointed...idk wtf or who the fuck was in charge of that project but went down hill from there...

Roland is what it is, I don't want them chasing the cheap market and sacrificing decades of "this shit just don't die."

That is a good description of how they like, but I'm not a huge fan either. Probably it just feels like the sort of thing that will look dated very fast?

I love Roland stuff for this reason. A lot of it isn't stellar, but there's rarely a Roland product that isn't durable and quite serviceable. Plus there's a bunch of stuff that really is stellar.

Oof, if I didn't already have the minilogue I wouldn't have even thought twice about that.
I'm not sure these look dated as much as they look like they were styled for a parallel universe where 90's cyber goth was still cool. But I'm still a fan. That synth is such a cool concept, a hardware controller for a vst that doesn't require a separate computer to run. Just push a button and you have a completely different synth at your fingertips.

........ just ordered a TB3 i found for under $150. couldna resist.
i'm super intrigued about having the 303 style rests and ties with a different and hopefully (at least for me. i get the XoxBox style interface, but it's not my favorite) better interface, and different toanz on option. i listened to ASSloads of demos, and while i get the appeal and the awesomeness of a revamped clone of the perennial acid bass box..... i think the TB3 is more in line with how i want to roll?
should be here end of the week/early next week (i HATE when people ship UPS/FedEx). gonna a/b them and.... might.... list the Xoxer?

I hope it's as repulsive as my neon green atrocity machine.
Which, for the record, is amazingly fun and sounds great to awful depending on how I adjust things, which is exactly what I expect from a synth with that level of tweaking. There's also a bunch of stuff they've added since the thing launched as far as waveforms and baseline synth options - there's now FM synthesis baseline and other fun hiding in the oscillator options.

Which, I mean, your milage may vary on that but Black + Green is the best combo ever.
