Interesting! I couldn't even hear the damn 60hz and the 120hz sounds almost identical to what I'm hearing.

So a few things to take into account here.

The Bass Prodigy is being sent off to Mesa because there is a component failure issue that is not able to be diagnosed from my local tech, without him spending a lot of time on it and it's under warranty. So that could be why I was hearing the noise with the Mesa.

The Mig 50 apparently is inherently noisy. So perhaps that's the issue there.

This new amp, Gallien Krueger 1001 RB II is by no means new. It was sitting in a guys studio, pretty much unused for the last several years.

So maybe it IS the filtering on the damn amp. Just a weird occurrence of noise happening with different things. How do I figure that out though? I don't have a fourth amp. LOL!!

OR! It could be the power in my home still, but less likely since I test it at my parents house and they live in a different area.

You could always buy a cab's worth of ammo and kill that frequency range shooting indoors with no ears.

Or I could add you for a minute to the LLC and you could do the same with one of my 8.5" 7.62N rifles. :)

A couple mags, you won't be complaining about the amp or any cab!

Yea, MIG isn't what I'd use for noise comparison.

GKs can be pretty intolerant of power noise - I've heard many spit at playing volumes in clubs over the years due to the almost ubiquitous shitty power.

What would you suggest? Let's say I were to get a small amp to just test the damn thing.

By the way, I'm one of those idiots that shot high powered rifles and handguns for a LONG time before ever wearing ear protection. Sigh.

120 hz is an amp issue, HIGHLY unlikely you're hearing mains there.

Amps that sit for a long time can earn this failure mode as well, I'd set that 3rd cab money aside for a recap/recalibrate from your friendly local amp tech. Do them one at a time, that way you can confirm/deny the theory without going all in.

That said, your original Mesa complaint is NOT explained by dried up power filtering, so stay the course on that one.

I'd have to hear what's wrong or what you're observing at this point.

I'm not sure what you're describing isn't the normal floor of a big amp.

Having just re-read the OP, I'd have to agree here.

I was visualizing the "static" as more of a percolated crackle, and less of a hiss. Occasional pops & cracks type shit, that is an always on new noise.

Turn off the kitchen flourescent first.

That's "I have massive line noise" going on from the sound, not the cab likely.

Tried it. Still getting the sound. #fuckmylife lol

Maybe I should lug it to my upper level. You never know.

Depending on how much is there when you're playing, it could also be the noise floor of the thing.

So I was reading some stuff on GK and apparently this is a common issue with them. Odd though as I've owned 5 or 6 of their amps and never had it happen. My main concern is that it turns into a bigger issue.

Sounds like a floating ground in your signal path to me. Remind me, does the volume of the sound go up and down with the volume control, or is it steady state?
