I love a big muff by itself, and/or combined with another dirt pedal. But unless its heavily modded to the point where it doesn't sound like a muff anymore, a muff makes me dissapear in a loud messy mix.
The musket I used yo have whas as close as I ever got to loving a muff style fuzz. Untill I scored an old Maxon D&S that is. Too many useless knobs on the musket...

Reverb. It destroys my dynamics. I'm warming up to it since I've been playing a lotttt more guitar (side effect of mine jerb) but still..can't write any dang music with one.
Although the Dewdrop has been speaking to me. And a Meteore into suboctave fuzz had me playing for hooours the other day..

Have you tried subtle reverbs? I find that if they are subtle they add some depth to the your tone, but if they are over powering they can take away from it.

There are also a bazillion versions of the circuit, and that's before you get to the clones, which complicates things. I think that the trick to muffs is goosing them with another drive pedal. And then turning them up.

I wish this repeat post was in smaller font, like it was slowly fading out...

Reverb pedals have a great place in a trade for something better.

Yes.
To be fair, I love reverb. It makes my simple stuff sound big and pretty.

Reverb in a band situation for me. On my own it sounds great, but I prefer delays for slapback sounds, and in a full rock band, 9 times out of 10 reverb just muddies up the mix. For me anyway,

Reverb and Muff. Love them both in my studio. In a band setting I need fuzz with some teeth, and reverb cane just create mud within a room with actual reverb.

Thats actually my main reason for using ANY effect
I know I'm not alone in that...
This is where I'd post some funny pic of the edge and his delay pedlols if I weren't this lazy
