I didn't think Piper was so sacred! It's not that I don't like it, I just don't see much of what I know to be Pink Floyd in it. I even like some of Syd'd solo stuff, but I don't put him or his Floyd stuff over anything else really. Blasphemy, I guess?

I was listening to the live Wall album last night, and it makes a lot more sense to me than the studio record. Like, it feels more like an OCR from a West End musical and, like, the intent is clearer. This is without seeing all the goddamn insane wall-building, too.

Last night, I was talking about Animals, which is definitely the most unjustly underrated Floyd album. It just feels raw and earthy by 70s Floyd standards (that is, compared to the spacey fantasy of DSotM and WYWH). But then, what do I know? I think Stethoscope is the best tune on Piper!

Astronomy Domine is the best song on Piper and is so much fucking better than anything on Animals.

Also it should be noted that I love few things more than arguing about the unending supremacy and 'clearly objective' pecking order of The Floyd but my tongue is firmly in my cheek.

I guess I meant post-DSOTM. Meddle is probably my favourite of all the albums, as was Obscured by Clouds for a time. Atom Heart Mother can eat a dick, it's just bad.

This is the problem with Floyd, I feel like because they kept the same name for all that time, it invites comparison when - to me - they might as well be completely different bands. Comparing something like The Gnome to Dogs feels like comparing Motorhead to Mumford or something. That probably sounds dumb and hyperbolic but...

Oh yeah, the Ummagumma Interstella is probably better than the Piper one? It's been a while since I heard either but,

Meddle's my fave too, followed very closely by Animals.

I can't pick a favorite it's all so fucking good.

Which is why I'm looking at paying more than the Ableton Suite for 50 year old music.

More is a delicious album.

Also, the live disc on Ummagumma (which does not contain Interstellar Overdrive, maaaan) and Pompeii might be my favourites. Given the fluid nature of the music, it just makes sense in a live context, I guess. But then there are tracks that aren't on either, so we move over to bootleg land etc. etc. In the end, I think it's their career as a whole that is my favourite.

I meant Astronomy Domine off Ummagumma it's confusing when a whole chunk of their music is songs about space and/or hobbits.

I've never met anyone that likes Atom Heart Mother, online and off. What am I not getting?

I get that I'm terribly mainstream most of my Floyd preferences, but it's not like I've not tried the more difficult stuff. It's just not for me. I guess I'm just dumb or whatever.

The Suite is great, the other songs are good.

Check out their Filmore west show -- the boot I have is called Interstellar Encore but there's a few different titles, it's a gig recording from 1970 -- which features the Suite and some other really good stuff, too (Grantchester Meadows!)

This reminds me that I lent my copy of Live at Pompeii to a friend only have it never returned... the shame. Must reacquire.
