That's the one thing I really miss from my old Timefactor. The freeze function was super cool. Wish Strymon would add it to the Timeline.

You can map the start point and/or any other value to an expression pedal and get the freeze you want.

Any of them will work - there's two variants in terms of production across the line and I've seen variants of every delay length in both versions.

Grey button and black button (see below, I happen to have one of each of them)



Grey button has (duh) grey buttons with larger knobs. I like the LFO section in that particular one a little better, but they vary a bit (age more likely than production specifics).

Black button adds linking blinking to led delay time (useful to match when wanting to return roughly to where you were before - but useful only on longer times for that as short ones just light the thing up solid) and invert feedback button, at the price of smaller knobs (harder to adjust in real time discretely by just a little bit due to spacing more than the size).

The number after indicates the delay time. 900 is 900ms (yawn), 1900/1.9 is 1900 ms 3600/3.6 is 3600ms, 4000 (never saw a 4) is 4 sec, 8000 (no 8 exists to the best of my knowledge) is 8 sec. 8000 has additional stuff but is EXPENSIVE and relatively rare when it appears.

There are internal trimmers to adjust delay length and LFO stuff if you're wanting to get crazier (take photos of existing setting first, trust me on this) or up the delay time. On the back of the rack, you've got the usual options for on/off or repeat/hold trigger footswitches (can be done by the front panel), various outs (Mix, dry, phase, etc).

3.6/3600 is the workhorse of the lot, 1.9/1900 is the budget, and the 900 is "just why?" in this day and age, and unless you get a smokin' deal on the RDS-8000, stay away because you can usually get a half dozen 3.6s for what they cost (wish I was kidding).

Neunaber has a patch with a freeze + reverb function that works very well. You can load it into any of the v2 pedals.

Echolution 2 also has a freeze mode that will loop whatever is in the delay buffer. At very short settings you can get some granular stuff, or loops up to 10 seconds.

I have a Slate v2 w/ExP controller on my board. As much as I love the verbs, I was kinda disappointed with the freeze patch.

Why is that? I thought the Wet sounded good in YT videos. I sold my V2 about two weeks before that functionality come out, regretted that forever but never went back. Still think of the stock mode as a stellar reverb sound.

the neunaber stuff sounds amazing, but the hold is a little lack luster. it kind of always sounded the same to me. not really much to tweak either. i think their stuff would blow up if they allowed for some weirdness

Cool. Thanks for this info! I have a lead on a black button 3.6. Hoping the guy will do $85 shipped.

One thing I should mention: the "double" will be either your least used or most used button - it kills the feedback knob and goes for an ADT little more than a single repeat.

yeah, it's pretty basic. I actually like it's sound, and if you add a long reverb tail to it you can get some nice sounds. but compared to dedicated freeze pedals it doesn't have a lot of controls.

Not sure if same--but MS70CDR/MS100BT have a trigger/hold delay that def gets glitchy.

Don't think they have a Freeze/Superego, Raptio, or Cathedral type smooth infinite hold, though--would rock if they did because they already pack an insane amount in there for teh cheepz. And everyone should have access to the Freeze and Capture goodness.

Yea, the trigger/hold on the Zoom was a nice surprise. That little thing actually has a few neat little tricks. I've never looked into the d/l extra effects that zoom offers through the app though for the ms100bt...but I guess there would be hope (though I don't know how it would trigger for freeze? Maybe threshold? Or they would probably go possessed route instead?)

When you turn the CHOP control on a Red Panda Particle beyond a certain point, whatever is in the delay line starts to repeat. Playing new information above a certain threshold changes what is in the repeating loop.
