DAM, Jerms and Pigdog are worth it I think, those guys are just extemely good at tweaking old fuzz circuits.
On the other hand, I would not spend that amount of money on one fuzzpedal, basically because I can't and because there are too many other things or pedals that I'm interested in.

Creepy Fingers makes a really great sounding fullrange/treble Rangemaster clone with NOS 60s transisitors, the Sugarboost.
Also check out the Hornby Skewes JHS Treble Booster, famously used by Blackmore and it also shows up in the Hornby Shatterbox. Pigeon FX makes a really great sounding clone in an original style enclosure.

That side of the fuzz game is like a whole different world. It's like pedal worship in an entirely different way.
I frequent the DAM forum from time to time when things are slow here. It's kind of like people into wine, which is the best way I can describe it, and that's not a derogatory comment either. They are just obsessed with old school, builds that can get as close to actual vintage in a new build as possible. All of the mentioned builders have impeccable craft. I've had an EFE before and the quality was there. I can't justify that much for a fuzz or a boost but they have amazing quality.

And like you said, it's almost like shoes/Jordan's. Part of it is the name/brand

Yeah, I'd love a DAM/EFE one day, but as you said, it'd have to be a circuit I fucking ADORE and couldn't get elsewhere cheaper.
Fuck their enclosures and aesthetic are rad, though.

Voerking raises an important point about gain.

In regards to the Beano Boost, I should have mentioned that in my opinion, it only sounds acceptable with gain way up past unity (12 o'clock or more on the pedal) into an amp that is well into its power tube distortion territory, or another medium to high gain pedal betwixt it and the amp. There's no bedroom level playin' with that puppy...so it may not be for you and your rig/set-up when factoring that in. If you play stadium rock to an audience of thousands, it stands alone, however.

If you're looking to use it for boosting lead solos a few dB while playing at bedroom levels into a clean amp, it doesn't sound that good to me, to be honest. When its set for just a touch of crunch, it can be a bit nasally and shrill.

I gotta saturate the circuit, and shake my house, but then it gives me goosebumps. Fetch me my faintin' couch.

I'll also throw out the Keeley Java. The tone knob on the Java makes it a little more usable at different gain/volume levels, but like the others it's really a design that works best with everything maxed into an amp that's already being pushed some. Get some volume and break up going though and step on a dimed Rangemaster, and there's nothing else in the world that makes that sound.

Yeah I've emailed with Creepy Fingers many times—he's a super nice guy and his stuff's definitely more reasonable. Seems to make pretty much everything, too... I've chatted with him about a Selmer Buzz Tone and a Carlin Compressor, neither of which I ended up pulling the trigger on because something else came up. Need to get around to putting in an order for one or both of those.

The Pigdogs seem particularly drool-worthy... not only the guts but yes, the enclosures... pretty porny.

I'm pretty sure I have more of Brads builds than of any other builders, I think he might be my favorite clone builder. Great stuff. I don't know if p2p tagboard builds sound any better...actually i've convinced myself that they do, probably some placebo effect going on ....but they look soooooooo good and definitely add another level to my enjoyment.

The Selmer Buzz Tone is one of my favorite sounds. I had a selmer clone built by Jimmy Behan, then picked up one from John Curl of Acid Fuzz. Only very very minor sonic differences between the two, with a little different response from the extreme ranges of the Depth knob with the Acid Fuzz giving it more texture. Hopefully some day soon I'll find a good deal on a Selmer Treble and Bass 50 mkII and be quite the happy lad when i run the Buzz Tone into it.

I'd like to get into demo videos eventually. I'm building up a small palette of essential things from builders here that could probably do with some more internet repping, which I'm happy to do.
I fear my playing and general camera presence would be way too poor to help anyone though.

Don't worry about being in front of the camera. Heck, the only thing you can prove about me is that I have two scabs on my hand, a fitbit, and some flip flops.

And the playing: sometimes the different perspective is more important than the skills. I think of it like a sketchbook and I work out sketches with certain pedals. Most important thing is just figuring out the stupid functional side (camera stand, mics, audio sync, etc). And fuck the haters on YouTube/online communities...they'll always be there and their shit talk ain't always about you or your video...they just like to stir up shit on there to get reactions. Just do what you like and you'll find great people who enjoy the sounds. I'm a terrible guitar player, but I have had a more positive than negative response...looking forward to vids!

Anyway, just wanted to also mention the great work ghost does...just great stuff. Love his nu-fuzz/fuzzrite, warmjet V, and his pepbox.

I've had an Astrolab and a Mr. Black treble booster for a minute. Didn't really like either.
