How about a Fender 85 or what's the name of the amp that Johnny Greenwood used to use?
On the other hand if you don't need to hang with a loud drummer you could also consider the Fender Excelsior (Pro) or Vaporizer.
I also heard some positive words on those Ibanez TSA amps.

85/Deluxe 90/110/etc. They're generally not hugely cheap on the used market, and won't go to pseudo-jazz clean.

They sound good and take pedals well but more modern SS.

I've owned several over the years (they were good stopgap/backup amps)

Yea, just have to get one with a 10" speaker or better.

The 35R will do it for small coffee-shop type gigs, but past that, it's not going to keep up much.

yeah a 1x12 sidekick reverb 65 ought to do it. mine certainly did. similar sound to the orange cr series actually...

Yea, the 65+ are hard to find though.

Usually they were all the little 10s and 15s, occasionally 25s and 35s.

Or a Rath Amp or Sessionette maybe?
If you see an add for that you could also check it out, they're quite good.

i can't find aaany of this stuff on ebay/classifieds etc in australia, haha.

an old yamaha fifty-112 popped up locally as a 99c auction so i'm keeping an eye on that. i can't find the weight or dimensions online anywhere but it's probably worth taking a chance on if it goes cheap enough.

Anyone tried these?

112 cabinet, 7,7 kg.
That is just a little bit more than my guitar case.

Combined with a Powerblock or the EHX 44 Caliber, you could have a pretty loud and lightweight rig.
Guitar in gigbag on your back, Powerblock-bag over your shoulder, cab in one hand and pedalboard in the other.

^ i reckon one of those paired with a quilter 101 would be an awesome rig.
$200 shipping though :(

What about one of those modern compact bass heads? They all look small and light enough to fit in a backpack or gigbag and can be paired with the cab of your choosing.

If you want easy to carry, Earcandy makes/made a 2x8 cab with a handle - so did Fender, the ultralight? Or maybe one of the Raezer's edge cabs? Those are marketed to the jazz cat set, so they are likely to be light weight, wide response, and designed for SS heads.
if i went the compact head route i think it'd be one of these http://www.quilterlabs.com/index.php/pr ... -mini-head
100w clean power, good reviews at least as far as jazz guitar is concerned, fits in a backpack, they have an australian distributor, etc.

i'd love one of those kinda cabs but i'm having a lot of trouble finding anything, the cab selection of retailers in australia in general is terrible.
i've played 1x12s and i know a lot of the budget ones are too bulky for what i need this time around. then my other options are basically an overpriced hughes & kettner 1x10 cab or the micro terror 1x8.
importing something like one of those awesome raezer's edge cabs would cost like $1000 on its own, almost, hence that DV mark combo looking like a pretty obvious solution at $600.
Pretty sure Raezer has an Australian distributor.

yeah they have a wholesale distro in australia but all the stores linked to it don't stock them
it's basically pointless stocking smaller brands here because the population is so small. i can't really blame them.

well i'm an idiot, totally forgot about the auction for an old yamaha fifty-112 that would have probably done nicely and it went for $50

i think i'm gonna go with:

the store that sells the quilter is away until next week so i'll keep on eye on ebay etc still but will probably order both then.

the more i thought about it the micro head + cab thing would work better for me because when i move again in a couple of years i can just ditch the cab and take the head with me wherever. i think the bugera is the best bet because it's dirt cheap, 80w speaker and weighs less than anything else i could find (its a 50/100w head and nearly all the 1x10/12 etc cabs i can buy have fuckin' 30w speakers in them)
could probably cut a hole in the back and/or swap the speaker for a neodymium variant to reduce the weight further, too. wondering if i could slot the head and some pedals/cables in the back to carry it all around. seems to get good reviews online and for the price i'd be happy to butcher it.

So what did you end up doing and how does it sound?

I just ordered a quilter 201. Feeling a little jittery, having never heard one!
