Yeah, and the whole waza thing is actually very genuinely Japanese. I've never seen people so much into their craft (could be making coffee, pastries, blue jeans or musical instruments) as in Japan. Tokyo is the city in the world with most Michelin stars for a reason :).

I guess for me the thought is, shouldn't all of their products be at the same standard?

Think it's a case of 'some things to a particular market, all to a price point' - the Waza stuff originally let them reissue stuff without being absolutely slavishly faithful *and* being so at the same time, and giving options.

It's just that some of this stuff doesn't really seem to warrant it. A tuner is a tuner at this point, and the Boss buffer has always been fine for what it is.

This tuner thing though...pure money grab.

Joke is most of the folks I know who were using the Boss pedal tuners were using them mostly *for* the buffer.

I've always used this quartz needle non-pedal tuner I've had for over two decades, never saw the point in filling up board or floor space with a tuner I would have to squint at.

I'm fully convinced half of Boss' marketing team is drunk/American businessmen.
That's the only way I can explain why half their stuff is top notch and half of it is godawful beyond all belief.
Same with EHX.

Wait.
What if EHX and Boss are secretly the same company.
That would explain so much.

If they're the same company, I'll be confused, given I've never successfully killed a Boss pedal.

I have a ME-6B from the stone age that's had more beer spilled on it than a drunken sorority pledge....it still runs. The front panel explaining functions needs a re-epoxy...but it functions 100%.

backwardsvoyager wrote:the reason the DC-2 works so well is because the there are no knobs though, it's a 'dimensional' pedal, you don't need to tweak it, it sounds good on any mode and is supposed to be subtle (even with no tweaking it's not that recognizable, it just makes shit sound cool in the same way as using a nice compressor or whatever)
:oldrant:
i definitely think there's room for a new chorus pedal from them though, something along the lines of fusing BBD's and complex filtering/stereo functionality like the DC-2 but with digital LFO's and the possibility to fuck shit up
I get what you're saying with the whole point and shoot thing, but you've clearly never played a DC3
You need the speed, depth and effect controls. Not only does just setting dials to random shit sound great, you can actually GET WHAT YOU WANT.
Which is kind of my point here.
If you think Boss are gonn reissue the same pedal, you should know better by now.
Let's say they did do the DC2. They'd give you one or two "classic modes" that they came up with based on a "user poll" of the one dude at the office who actually owned one in the 80s, then they'd fill the other slots up with unlistenable garbage.
Stick with parameter control, you'll always get to where you need to be.

Although, all of this is moot, as they're probably able to give you your DC2 switch settings on a rotary selector as modes in addition to a DC3 mode. Which is why I was saying you could just reissue both in the same box. We can both win here.

On the new chorus idea, I think a DC5 is fucking in order. Imagine what they could do with the idea now that digital modelling has improved so much.
You wanna sound like two sea sick guitars, summoning Satan between battling for frequency primacy? Boring.
Try 5 guitars, all of which you bring within cents of each other, creating disgusting amounts of vomit inducing modulation, all supervised by Cthulhu.
And fuck yes it had better be pink.

I've heard the DC-3 is quite a different sounding circuit than the DC-2. Is that true?

I honestly thought they were the same deal except the 3 gives you control, which lead to different sounds.
Maybe they are completely different? I've never compared a schematic so maybe that's worth looking into.

DC-2 is analog, DC-3 is digital.
The switching is really simple, actually.

That I do know, but is the digital circuit in the DC-3 performing the same delay line/phasing functions as the DC-2 was using analog components to do?
