It might be a good idea to give some expectations about the complexity/length of the samples, maybe ?

Re: Open Source ILF Collab 2016
I think it really can be anything, based on what's been said so far... DoS mentioned using super long samples and squishing them down to 1 second, or vice versa, or Yngwie shreds from Goroth (yus) or whatever else.oscillateur wrote:It might be a good idea to give some expectations about the complexity/length of the samples, maybe ?
I have a sound effects sample library I from an audio production house I worked with at one point. Everything from crying babies to lawnmowers... random ass stuff... was thinking of maybe coming that for something fun/weird that could be mangled beyond recognition

Re: Open Source ILF Collab 2016
Yeah I would agree with that. If we're looking for some guidelines I'm pretty sure the Oblique Strategies work pretty well here:
http://stoney.sb.org/eno/oblique.html
But to be less esoteric I think things with a little more harmonic density are preferred, at least as far as I'm concerned. The more interesting the source material is, the more interesting the final product should be, if that makes sense?

ST is going to turn our samples into a faithful rendition of Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy.

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

On that note, this album (Day Glow Freaks) is made up entirely of Steely Dan samples

That's not to say it's particularly something I enjoy listening to, but it is a great example of how you can take one thing and turn it into something completely different.

Sure, or what Chris Lawhorn did with Fugazi...

(although, to be fair, this still sounds like Fugazi to me)

Re: Open Source ILF Collab 2016
Now that is fucking rad.
I'll be totally offline from the 13th to the 20th, but if you guys want to set a deadline for earlier I can compile the samples up when I get back. Two weeks seem like enough time (i.e. 4/9)?

All good as long as I can do my part before May rolls around.
