Yea, on guitar stuff I don't care, but some of the toy stuff I get it. It's also occasionally the irrational "I didn't get a new one of these when I was 8 or 18" and the item with everything's as close as somebody's gonna get.
I see it more in irrational nostalgia purchases (toys) than I do with music instrument stuff. Gun market cares a bit but there it's only if it's a serious collector's piece (at which point it's also never been fired, etc. so "as new" includes all the bells and whistles).
For a guitar pedal, I just shake my head. Because those 1986 Boss catalogs that told you what pedals to use together for a particular sound...really make or break the deal.

To echo many responses in this thread, I like receiving them but won't pay more for one. They do affect the resale value for whatever reason, so I hang onto them. I keep a box of boxes in my basement. Aka tinder for when my hover board catches on fire.
They also make my life easier when packing pedals. I like to double box and having a snug fitting original box is nice.

Chase Bliss boxes > all other pedal boxes.

This is the truth.
And maybe vidret is right, Swedish people seem to care loads about having original boxes. I get the storage/shipping argument, but in that case it shouldn't matter if it's the original box or not imo. But sure it's nice when it fits snugly into something though (TWSS)

Well, I keep my boxes, but mostly because they're neat for shipping if I flip stuff. I store my pedals on the floor/desk besides my amps.
I don't understand how it relates to resale value, though. It's a fucking box. You can't plug your guitar into it. It does absolutely nothing, other than contain whatever you decide to put in it.

I use to keep pedals in the boxes but I never gave a fuck as to the pedal matching the box…so I ended up with all these boxes with different pedals names written all over them with a sharpy

I still have almost all boxes. But it needs so much space in my basement that i'm thinking about throwing that stuff away.
Side note: had two pedals at Steve/Pigdog for repair and clone work and he asked me if i want boxes for them (i shipped the stuff to him without those boxes to save space). So it seems to be an important point for some people...

I only keep boxes because people are so anal about it, but now I have a bunch of boxes form pedals I don't own anymore because I forget to pack the pedals in their respective boxes when I flip them.

Most annoying when some1 asks this despite no mention of a box being in the listing.
For me it depends on the gear...I'm mostly a case-by-case box boy. Diff reasons dwai.

This one happens to have had many good things put in it

I hope you weren't selling a Montreal Assembly pedal... The buyer will have issue finding one with orignal box
