So I spent an hour playing the same riff just twisting knobs to see how close i can make them sound, and how different, just by themselves, no clean, no stacking.
My findings are: They are similar, definitely related, yet each unique, and I think Tom would tell you the same. I would say of the two, the Algal V2 is the more versatile. I can get into near-Doom Bloom gain, but without quite as much low end oomph. The Doom, however, will not get as clean as the Algal. With the level dimed and the Bloom control just barely cracked, it's still dirtier than the Algal set to low gain.

I would say, if you can, get both. If you like one more than the other, you'll have no problem flipping it.
If you can only get one, and need versatility, Algal V2.
If you're all gain, all the time, Doom Bloom.

Oh yes.. So good. Each circuit on it's own is great, but together....damn. Like I said, the Algal set to low gain is becoming my foundation sound, with the Doom being the heavy. MMM...so good.

I had a thought though...I have an Algal/Doom combo, and a Non oscilating Shroom/Doom combo exists ( viewtopic.php?f=142&t=48561 ). I'm curious what two v2 Algals would be like, ala the SSBS Blurry Mountain, or the Sonic Bloom with the Algal V2 instead of the Doom.
