How small?
Keeping in line w/ this thread, I'd say Fender C600 - or whatever the Gretsch branded equivalent was/is. Basically a SF/BF champ with a fixed tone stack. 6" speaker is surprisingly loud and low end friendly once broken in. $100-$200.

I have one I would swap for a pedal

6" would be about right.
for recording.
feels like a dumb question...what's a fixed tone stack?

think he means how there's no amp adjustment aside from volume...

Hadn't thought about it, just about any pedal I guess, not getting used, more amps than guitars right now

I've been very content with my VHT Special 6 combo and I gather that the Ultra version is superior. It's a Fender style amp but is hand-wired and easy to modify (apparently). It is fitted with a 12ax7 and a 6v6 but can accommodate other combinations too.

I was positive I'd seen one recently, black tolex. Cant find it now, or am misremembering.
The DT+Jim Root 2x12 cab is a setup I see from numerous sources...but that's not what I saw.
Either way, Orange makes the TT 1x12 combo; it should follow a DT can go in place of the TT.
The issue is finding a distributor who will sell you one, other than ordering direct. It may be treated as a custom order, idk.
If such an amp idea appeals to you...you know what to do.
Edit: I knew I'd seen the case before...but this one doesn't have a DT in it

I know I remember seeing one all black. Maybe it was custom from the factory...or a dealer did it.

Yeah, theres a couple resistors in there that fix the EQ so its a little scooped. You can take them out and put a jumper in and it opens the amp up a bit and gives it more gain.
Theres a lot of tutorials out there on how to mod the 600 into more vintage circuit. They are really fun 'feeling' amps, very very touch sensitive. Makes my Pro Jr. feel lifeless.
