Agreed, I tried one the only day and it's one of the few things in the contending to knock my Paisley drive off the board.

Our bassist has a BAT Revelation as his almost-always-on overdrive.

Good call on the SD1. In the doom band I'm in that never plays anymore where I'm using flatwounds and trying to compete with two thick guitars rather than one brighter one, I use a dod 250 with a blend for the low gain sound.
HM2 can give you that godflesh clang without getting too much gain sizzle. Some let more bass through than others.

I use my Algal Bloom for OD tones.

I heard the Doom Bloom was great on bass as well.
Get Tom to knock you up a custom Bass Doom Bloom?
Fuck, I might get him to do that for me....

The Hardwire / Digitech CM2 mentioned earlier is my always on bass booster. It makes EVERYTHING sound better. Makes the Megalith come alive! It's basically a deluxe Bad Monkey / Tube Screamer type pedal. Gets punchy noise rock distortion on it's own, stacks amazing. Way cheaper used than they should be.
EQD Monarch is my favorite overdrive for bass, about $100 used. Marshall Guv'Nor is great with a four band eq, but not touch-volume sensitive. Nice if you want mid gain but hard clipping. Don't really care for my Black Forest on bass. A Ram's Head muff clone is awesome on bass, with volume rolled back it's an amazing OD sound.
The other Hardwire distortions are great on bass too, I also have the TL2 Metal and that's sweet for grindy metal bass. Maybe higher gain than you want?

I have a custom V1. One of the features is a bass/lo freq toggle. It's kick ass.

Had a Bass-Drive on my board for many years. Boost is very useful.

I sold my first Monarch and my first Pharaoh. THAT will not be happening again. I wish there was a "Deluxe Monarch" with a four band eq though! Or even just a mids knob. That's why I stack it with the CM2.

Came in to say the RAT is so good on bass i've considered getting a second clone so I can run them at different gains.
Leaving this thread saying I want to try out a driving notion and a ram's head.
Oh, and I know it's a preamp first and foremost, but my Rusty Box is perfect and iam never going back to real amps. To the "preamp" end, I have heard great things about certain iterations of the DOD 250 as well.

Also not really an OD sound, but I loved the shit out of Whores' bassist's sound with a cranked DOD250. Shit sounded cray.

Dimed 250 is the first couple of Om records in a box, too, but it totally disappears in a mix unless you get really creative with how you EQ (ala Sleep)

The Monarch should come with either a Dunes or a Reaper in a Twosome-style deal.
And it should be black.
