Hah, I feel the same way about both even though I haven't played much EQD. But it is a very concise way to put it for both. I think I have some specifics about Mr. Black that I will write later.BoatRich wrote:I feel the same way about Mr. BlackUglyCasanova wrote:![]()

But I don't think that that detracts from them at all. I mean, that is really something that some people strive for.

Agreed, I definitely still want that Mr. Black Ambience thing, because it seems like it would do the same thing as an RV3 but just a tiny bit betterlordgalvar wrote:Hah, I feel the same way about both even though I haven't played much EQD. Mr. Black
- via experiences with Dark Echo, Thunderclaw, Treble Booster, Supermoon, (and I think something else?)
Very interesting and well thought out concepts done in the most correct way. The sound is always exactly what is expected sometimes to a fault. The sound is predictable and stable that always scales well across the controls (meaning the response is always what is expected when turning a knob...no real loss or change of dynamic). The controls are logical even though they can control multiple parameters. However, I do find that the voicing can get lost in a bigger mix and sometimes somewhat detached from the source signal so I think they cater to a cleaner sound.
- via experiences with Karma Suture, Echoplex, (eh, can't remember exactly the old ones I tried years ago when they first started), and a conversation with them...sorry I haven't tried as much of their stuff as others, but they make a large variety
Replications of vintage designs that are meant to be more even keeled and fit into a greater whole (or combined into a hybrid of sorts). There is less emphasis on going all out and instead building a subtle, usable tone inspired by older ideals. Everything I have tried has this slightly thin boost/gain stage that seems to even everything out and create highly usable but somewhat tame effects. Like if a fuzzrite goes kinda nutty with the gain high, I expect the CB version to be 90% of that. I would say that they overall have a "play nice" sound that can be tame but similar to what is expected. Some of the character is lost when stacking but the negative effects on the next pedal are not as severe as a result. I guess I just see them as kind of mellow and a "part of a whole" soundwise.
