As stoked as I am (starting to get) about the pedal, I haven't quite found a good demo for it on youtube. Some are partly ok, but none really dig into it the way I'd like.
Maybe I'm just picky. But still! :P Any recs?
Cons:
- Changing presets with MIDI is glitchy.
- Input and Output are "reversed" (This is for all the *Factor series. What were they thinking? )
- Spillover is lame

Pros:
- Everything else you can think of is perfect, really.

Good demo for you:

I'll try to wrap up a vid where I'll flick my saved sounds, noodling around, for you.

Welp, its official. Sold my Timeline and DMC and bought a Space today, going to also try to pick up an El Cap to go along with it.

I've owned Eventide pedals, and I've owned Strymon pedals. If I had to decide between a Space and a BigSky, I'd go go with the BigSky. I prefer its sounds, and I prefer its user interface.

I never understand when people say that.
My main grip with the big Strymons is that they hide the coolest parameters under submenus (accessible by pressing "Value" knob, turn it right, press the knob again, adjust, press again to exit and repeat for the rest of the parameters). :picard:

Not to mention the useless screen only works for some of the parameters too.
And the Expression mapping is a completely nightmare.

With the Eventide Stompboxes series, you have everything right there on the 10 physical knobs, a HUGE screen that works for all parameters and a easy-to-set expression system.

Sound is a subjective topic of course, UI is not.

Ive owned the Space twice. It still haunts me. Specifically Blackhole and TremoloVerb make me weak in the knees. People sometimes refer to it as "cinematic" which I agree with. A big bonus for the large screen and easy to use interface, even for a preset-adverse person like me. Hotswitch removes the need for an expression pedal. Easy to switch presets. I found an odd joy in naming patches too. Fuuuuck, I might have to get another one. Reverb is my kryponite.

I tried a BigSky in the store. It sounded okay but lacked the depth of weirdness that the Space offers. I owned a Timeline at one point, and never cared for the interface as much, though similar, just too much buried in secondary menus and the small display was annoying.

I actually like the Strymon interface more myself (TimeLine vs PitchFactor). It takes me way longer to dial in on the PF than the TL. Even with the submenu, which I agree, is a little fucky. I also attribute that to the fact that the PF has SO FUCKING MUCH going on that it's easy to lose track of where everything is. Pitch shifting in general takes a lot longer to dial in than delay, but I digress. The form factor of the TL just makes sense to me. I like the Eventides a lot, they're just more daunting to me for some reason.

Also I've heard from a number of people that the Strymon dudes are a lot cooler/nicer/more approachable than the Eventide dudes. I know this holds no bearing in actual real world use, but it's something that crosses my mind from time to time. With that being said my PitchFactor isn't going anywhere.

That was not a fair comparison lol, it's like comparing a SF Champ vs a JCM20000.

And I agree somehow on the dudes using Strymon and Eventides. Strymon is for flanders and Eventide for douches, I was both until this day, now I'm just a douche with a DD-500. :hobbes:

Uh, not trying to be defensive as an Eventide user or anything, but I think the "Strymon dudes" and "Eventide dudes" referred to are not the users but the people running the respective companies and especially their customer service. See, e.g., Jwar's saga of the maxed H9.

Well, I haven't met or chat with any of the Strymon dudes but the Eventide dudes at the forums and mail support have been really helpful every time I have any kind of issue or question. Also, most of the features added have been implemented because of user's request. They even open threads for feedback before implementing most of these features.

And I read the jwar's thread too, he didn't "read the manual" before nor asked if what he did was safe to do. And if I'm not wrong, he got what he wanted at the end and he still uses his H9.

That demo though. That's it. I'm getting a Space, once I can afford one and have sorted the already planned purchases that is. But yes, I'm getting one. Definitely.
