I fixed it, I swear! haha
I'm kidding a bit...hardcore is just not the poppy first wave punk to me...I mean anything from Crass to Exploited to Nomeansno was hardcore punk when I was growing up. Too many freakin' genres now
Oh, good call on RKL and Born Against.

oh shit I was actually thinking about starting a 90s hardcore thread the other day but didn't want it to get casecandy'd. Good call on Born Against, they are the actual best band ever.
Anyway any excuse to post some Sarah Kirsch:

I haven't kept up with much hardcore outside of my own scene in the last few years (nor in it really, I'm old, and the trend for acting like you might be a racist skinhead can f right o), but Acid Problem, Lotion, GLOSS and Broken Prayer are newer bands I've been digging.

Fair enough, I just saw many other good bands posted here that are not classics so I didn't get your gripe/maybe thought you were just being elitist?

Lol, just being a smartass. I don't like very much hardcore, especially 90s and 00s, but what I do like I'm pretty vehement about. I do get a little annoyed though when people still tout classics and entry level bands though.

I know you were stirring the pot a bit, waltdogg...
But I think posting classics is a good thing sometimes. Assuming that everyone has had the same experiences and as much knowledge as one thinks they have is pretty elitest/ignorant. I would have loved someone lining out good stuff, including classics, as I got into this stuff. People were always elitest dicks and would say shit like "You should know that, no point in showing you because you're a poser" when I was 12. So whatever, good music is good music and deserves to be listened to. No one in my town listened to bad brains and I didn't hear them until youtube was a thing...
It's also good to see other peoples intrepetations of such a generalized label like "hardcore". There is a lot of newer/different scene stuff on here that I haven't heard. Also, stuff like Poison Idea, Disharge, etc get so little play on here, it is worth posting. Oh well, it's all fun and great to see stuff from other perceptions (and I don't know what your cut off for a classic is...because there is a lot of stuff that is known but it ain't canonized or general knowledge yet...you'd be surprised how many kids have no clue who Born Against is and that is sad).

I have spoken to kids who won't give Born Against because the production on the records is so crappy. That is a national tragedy.

Well of course I was, this is hardcore. No status quo allowed. With the exception of clone bands, "hardcore" music is so ever evolving, I love tons of old "classic" and "entry-level" bands but I think my point is/was that what came after builds on that and in some ways is a lot better. You still gotta know and respect the roots, but only feeding off the roots for inspiration can become toxic. As we saw with lots of mid 00s 80's hardcore revival bands.

Hot take: There is not a single good "hardcore" record that came out of the 90's or 00's.
