Re: Mr. Black Ambience
Mine just shipped. I'll put up a demo once I get it.
EDIT: Looks like it was just pre-shipment information. I do have a tracking number though so that's cool.

Re: Mr. Black Ambience
Kinda wish I'd jumped on the pre-sale price. Previously, I've been eying the Afterneath and Dispatch Master for some ambient toanz. The Afterneath has a slight 'artificial' sound to me (I could be wrong, also specific settings can probably make a difference) and not familiar enough with the Dispatch Master to know if it's good for ambience. Then along comes a pedal called "Ambience" and it's on sale, but I don't pull the trigger.
To be fair to myself though, I should be selling stuff, not buying.
Dibs on your flips.

Re: Mr. Black Ambience
Couldn't pass on the Ambience at the presale price. Been on the fence about my Dispatch Master as it doesn't get weird enough for me. It's sparkly clean, doesn't self oscillate, and somewhat lacking in the wet department.
The Ambience seems to cover what I don't like about my DM. Was mainly sold by a demo I seen on youtube that when you set the span to minimum and max the decay, you get a very musical "ghostly" oscillation.
Hoping the Ambience is the ticket. The Afterneath has way too much going on for me to be productive, and would be nice to flip my DM at a small profit.

This is exactly why I've never gotten a Dispatch Master, despite tons o' GAS. It will be cool to see if the Ambience can pick up the slack. The Afterneath will weird your balls off, btw.braaandooon wrote:Been on the fence about my Dispatch Master as it doesn't get weird enough for me.

Re: Mr. Black Ambience
The Dispatch Master is still a great pedal though, it made a great replacement for my RV-3. I just prefer my repeats murky and lo-fi which my DFX9 covers perfectly. Mainly looking for a tool that pairs well with the DOD.
I've sat down with the Afterneath and really like that one, but find myself messing with knobs too much. My practice time at home and with the fellas is pretty limited, and find too many knobs leads to too much unproductivity in my equation, which is why I eventually flipped my RM-1.
Another thing that seems to seperate the the Ambience from the EQD offerings is modulation, which I could use a dose of considering my board is very meat and potatoes and lacking some wobble.

Re: Mr. Black Ambience
I have a feeling the ambience will be awesome. Kinda bummed I didnt get one at the presale price.
I have an afterneath and use it with synth stuff. It took me at least a month of tinkering to really understand it. I did find myself needing two hands to keep things under control so I added an expression jack to control the length. I like using it to create a sort of underlying drone by almost maxing the length.

I am an earthquaker fan boy, and I could not get into the afterneath at all for this reason. I have plenty of digital delay and reverb, but this just doesn't do it for me…K2000 wrote:The Afterneath has a slight 'artificial' sound to me (I could be wrong, also specific settings can probably make a difference) and not familiar enough with the Dispatch Master to know if it's good for ambience.

Got mine in on Friday, but haven't had a chance to spend more than a few minutes with it. Really like what I've heard so far though, drippy, shimmery echoes. I'll get a demo up this week.

Re: Mr. Black Ambience
Mine showed up yesterday, and within minutes my Dispatch Master made its way to the bay.
The only thing I can really compare it to thats housed in a single box would be the EQD Disaster Transport SR. But not really alot out there that offers dual modulated delays and reverb in one box and the DTSR only offers most of that recipe. The Ambience is much smaller and less knobs, but a very innovative design. Beats the DTSR hands down in the noise department. Could never get the pt2399 clock noise out of my signal with my prior DT boxes.
Overall a great little box, my newborn passed out in stream of drool after a few washy single note lines, and pretty psyched about my first Mr. Black purchase.

Wow, nice assessment. And, I've been thinking about getting a Disaster Transport SR a lot, lately. This will have me reconsidering that...braaandooon wrote:Mine showed up yesterday, and within minutes my Dispatch Master made its way to the bay.

Re: Mr. Black Ambience
I've had both the Disaster Transport and the SR version and really liked what they had to offer, the SR is definitely more versatile than the Ambience and will do a better job at more standard effects, but I don't think anyone buys a DTSR for standard delay sounds. I know my motivation in buying one was to get a nice wash without having to board a bunch of different delays and verbs as I prefer my rig as simple as possible.
In the end the clock noise drove me batshit with both the DT's and wasn't really willing to shell out for an isolated power supply that "might" fix my issues.
One thing I've recently discovered thanks to the ass backwards thinking of ILF is that putting my Boss tuner at the end of my chain has cleared up alot of noise associated with daisy chained delays. I've fallen in love with my DFX9 all over again since my tuner has moved to last. Must be that underrated Boss buffer doing Cornish like shit at the end of my board.
