My perfect pedalboard would flip itself every 2-3 weeks and save me the trouble.

honestly, i just want to work my board out FINALLY to be a good balance of form and function. its either too limited and i find myself hitting a wall or trying to switch too many things quickly and screwing up (like turning off a delay AND stacking two drive pedals that were both previously off) or i have too much going on and something only gets used at one point during the set or theres a technical difficulty thats too difficult to science out on the fly because of the sheer amount of cabled and connections involved.

im getting closer though. figuring out my gain section, and working out my delay/reverb section. tuner and volume pedal have been worked out for a long time, everything else is constantly being swapped.

i mean, im having fun so...

This is all that matters. I think that if I ever reached a perfect pedal board, I'd have to start a new project just start the search all over again.

Well, I agree to an extent - but have you seen the wretched excess that is my For Sale ad in BST? I think I've gone through metric dong-tonnes of pedals and was never happy with what I got out. One day, right after eating a biscuit and masturbating (but not in that order) I thought to myself "self, I think it's time we sort your effects rig. Stat."

...thus began the long and painful journey of finding out that not only was I terrible at masturbation and had chafed myself raw, but that I also had a problem with pissing about endlessly tweaking shit and never really getting something accomplished. So I ripped the whole board apart and started simple. Guitar to amp. Eventides on the FX loop. Glorious. Metal brought forth by the well-manicured hands of Satan herself. Then I decided it would be nice to have a few other options... like another fuzz voice or two when I wanted to accentuate something. Then I realized that the only fucking fuzz that made me want to return to masturbating was the Wow Signal and maybe the Fuzz Factory 7. So every other fuzz I have is either sold or is being listed to sell. I explored the depths of fuzz, and all I returned with was soiled trousers.

That said, I wanted a gate, and compression, and perhaps a slight bit of overdrive. You know, because there are times when one doesn't want dynamics and wants only the Donkey show. It would also be nice to have a wah, but not just your average fucking wah, that's like admitting you enjoy listening to Creed, often. (no offence to Creed, I listen to them sometimes as well, but only admittedly when I'm having a pity wank.)

So yeah, it may seem a bit expensive - but looking at all the pedals I've gone through (and are still up for grabs, by the way), it's far and away much cheaper - and now I have so many options in just under 12 pedals for anything I could possibly conceive in my paranoid, wretched little brain. Fuck yes to that, and also to not having multiple boards to carry about if I ever decide to start gigging again. Fuck that in it's bloody, hemorrhoid-laden ass.

Side note: I also have a board full of Moogerfoogers, but that's for synth (we don't crossbreed in this household) and synth alone. I'm really trying to cut down to the smallest I can get away with and still have enough options to keep me busy for years.

I think my board is perfect, but I do always lust after different ways to achieve the same goal. Today I would go with:

Mountainking Frequency LSD
EQD Interstellar Orbiter
MU-FX Octave Divider
That new Binson echo

It was the eventides and fuzz factory 7 that caught my attention-that's like over $2000 for those 5 pedals alone.
I'm sure they're amazing pedals though. If you have the money and that's what you really want, then go for it! :)

My dream board would be something like this (in no particular order):

-a few fuzzes (oscillating, octave, suboctave, muffy, glitchy, velcroey... With so many fuzz flavors and options it's hard to whittle down choices to even a few per board!)
-overdrive
-tuner
-phaser
-Flanger
-something wacky
- wah
-possibly a noise gate and/or buffer...

I'm getting there!

I remember the days of only $2k in my effects!

I have but I'm still paying for some of it.

Which is frightening on a fixed income.
