i just listened to a couple of your tracks. great stuff, by the way. having heard the music i think any kind of effects on the bass besides dirt could really easily sound pretty out of place in that band. not saying it can't be done well, but having heard it i would just get one of these fine dirt pedals mentioned here and be done. i would probably go with something rat based, or maybe just a rat, based on what i heard.

I really agree with this statement and that's kinda the place I'm at now. To be honest I've been out of the pedal game for a year now and I kinda just wanted make sure I wasn't missing anything cool for bass to check out. Was planning on trying to work the new meatbox reissue into some of my stuff. But all these other suggestions will really be helpful.

A ring mod or superfuzz style octave fuzz could be useful for adding an element of weird (subtle or not)

I'd say an envelope follower (I pref phaser, but BP filter OK too), but I like it because of bowing, so if you are EBG then that's not going to apply

The other one I would recommend almost as highly as the Volt Thrower for a metal head who wants to keep it simple is the Quantum Mystic by BAT. It's another one that can cop great distortion or OD tones, is more doom/stoner flavored than the thrash/punk Volt Thrower, to my ears. And the QM keeps its tone nicely throughout the gain range so it's pretty easy to go from distortion to OD and back when you're on stage.

The Quantum Mystic is based on an old Ross Distortion that is basically a Distortion +, IIRC.

loosely based, I think.

Put another way: 98% of Mike's tone on those older Yob records was a Ross Distortion and a compressor. The Quantum Mystic emulates that sound, by all accounts.

Another vote for the Supercollider from me. I'm always trying other dirt pedals, but on bass I keep going back to the SC. The mids control is extremely useful and you can really use it to dial in a variety of tones.

for me it would be a fuck overdrive, i'm kind of obsessed. it's really dynamic and if you dig in real deep it sounds sooo good.

I'd say Volt Thrower as well.

 Put my Thundercloud on Reverb for like two days when I had the chance to get a Mesa Boogie bass amp head. Withdrew it one minute after I knew the amp was sold! Would love to try one of those Katanasound bass fuzz...

Ezekiel 25-17 or clone. And if there is room on the board throw on a Scrambler or clone.
