Fuck and Ghost Echo. Both very light and subtle.

I've been keeping a lower gain fuzz on most of the time lately. My suneater is perfect for this, with a little volume roll off. And my el cap is also on 99% of the time

If it is central to the character of your sound, I'd argue yes.

Both those things are no functionally different than leaving an amp's gain channel at max or running a fuzz fulltime.

My new rig sounds sparkly clean, even at high volumes. And almost all my dirt peds are pretty damn extreme, which was just fine in my two-channel amp days. So now I feel like a fucking tgp blues lawyer, cause I'm after an 'always on' dirt pedal that just adds a bit of grit, and sounds ballsy even at lower gain settings

So yeah, my future 'always on' pedal will probably be something like a klon, sho, lpb-1, white light, etc...:idk:
or a Fuck or a Mini or a Mountain Range :)
...Or a Sonic Titan or a Meathead or a Ruetz'd rat or a modded DOD 250 or a Monarch or a Speaker Cranker or....:idk:

As usual, a bazillian different options, and nothing but biased opinions and random youtube clips to go on :thumb:

Anyway, I just pulled the trigger on this Wren&Cuff Mercy Phuk. Hardly knew about its existance, but it's a trade deal, and the thing seems worth a try. One knob, one switch, orange with a birdy graphic...What's not to like, right? It'll be my first w&c experience, I never ended up with one probably 'cause they're not exactly super cheap. But in this case, if it's as solid build and somewhat unique sounding as I read everywhere, I figured it's at least worth a shot.
I'm trying to avoid overkill pedals for this particular job, I already have pleny of dirt sources to cover a wide range of sputtery high gain shit, and imo they don't typically shine when it comes to medium gain overdrive duties...:idk:

I was gonna say Emerald Prince, to echo whiskey's Ep-1 sentiments, but lately I'm starting to think about using my Black Forest on minimal gain for its FAC and EQ abilities.
Early trials are proving to yield results, but it would be nice to get it to "clean boost" as it still runs real fucking hot into the preamp.

BLOOD E.: People outside the Doom Room like contrast? :idk:

Waiting for whiskey to return fire with, "fuck cleans".

It's not just contrast, but some of the ugliest sounds possible don't come from having any fuzz on at all.

I will not argue with that.
There is an abundance of weirdness hidden in cleans.
Great for really creating and highlighting the awfulness of disharmony.

Yep, and a subtle hammer of ugly that isn't quite there with a fuzz always on, especially given my taste in fuzz starts at Ampeg Scrambler and goes to apocalypse frying transformer.

used a white light at boost settings for split PUs to compensate volume... but thats all. Used a LAL Angel Ring but need some equing for the split PUs. so there is no always on pedal in my rig.

Dude, every time you mention the scrambler it reminds of how much of a dick I am for not making the acquisition of one my main priority.
And the sound of an amp about to blow up is pretty much the best shit ever.

Scrambler into a Blender: the sound the 60s should have known.

But I doubt anyone did it, it seems.
