It makes me want to go around piss testing doom bands to see who's actually full of shit.

I don't really smoke anymore and barely drink. Just if you're not willing to destroy your whole life to play slow then your music is INAUTHENTIC AND FALSE.

I don't give a fuck, card carrying Pike fanboy here.

You guys are really reading way much into it.
You could tell me you didn't care for Sleep/HoF because it didn't push your buttons or whatever, and that'd be cool, but to say it actively bores you is missing the whole point of it, I think.
HoF to me is like this long, drawn out, epic fantasy comic book, published over volumes.
Its full of so much ridiculous awesomeness that at first glance you could write it off as a cheese-fest, but that is kinda the point. There are so many very, very cheesy elements, that would normally be cringeworthy if attempted by a lesser band, that are just pulled off and delivered in the right way with enough technical kick assery its like an Arik Roper piece.
Yeah, OK, theres a dragon perched on a mushroom smoking a hookah, but fuck it looks good and damned it that just didn't become cool.

Plus riffs.
The man is a fucking riff-machine if nothing else.
The only reason I keep trying to learn to like HOF is because of the cheese. But my head doesn't move more than a few millimetres back and forth when I jam HOF on the stereo. It's nice and all but yeah... I don't hear the ruleage in the riffs :idk:

I'm a huge Sleep and HoF fan.

I recently went back and was pleasantly surprised by Death Is This Communion, but the last few records have been weak for sure. His riffs used to get emblazoned in my brain...now, I couldn't hum you one riff off Snakes or De Vermis Whateveris.

Live shows I've seen have been consistently good across years tho...

Go listen to 10000 Years, Baghdad or Blood From Zion, then report back.

You'd have to remember them to hum them..all I meant was that the riffs are pretty forgettable now.

it's just a wall of Riff, singular, stretched over an entire discography.

It is glorious and you're committing heresy.

Ive seen them live at least 30 times since 2003ish. They're always a great show and snakes is awesome live, but then i get home and put the cd on and i think, was it this boring live?
I really like rumors of war but everything else puts me to sleep. I read an interview with matt last year where he talked about how bored and jaded he was with heavy metal and while i don't personally agree with him that metal these days is boring i definitely think his boredom comes out in the music.

After several listens I'm pretty underwhelmed with it. I love HoF, but this one feels pretty regurgitated.

Matt Pike is one of those artists that has done enough to be God no matter what he does in the future.

Unless he becomes a Nazi or a KKK member or something, I suppose that would be the final frontier.

But even... like... I like Burzum and that guy's a Nazi. I dunno.

He was always a Nazi though.

I'm not a Nazi guys

Hes not so much a nazi as he is someone who thinks white people are from another planet where we had magic and dragons and shit and we flew away on our giant space luckdragons and crash landed here and the black people and jews killed our luck dragons and stole the secrets of magic from us. So basically minorities are the reason I had to go to community college instead of hogwarts.

Sooooo i mean more of a scientologist than a nazi.
