But seriously how are The Eagles even deserved of being mentioned in the same sentence as Springsteen? How can you equate those artists? Because I know I waxed poetic about them but it is admittedly just nostalgia, whereas Springsteen is one of the cornerstone songwriters of modern American rock

Nebraska sucks. Born in the USA sucks. Born to Run sucks. The hook to Dancing in the Dark is really good. But it is quintessentially useless music. It's tossed off garbage. Sometimes his songs are good when other people do them (see Blinded by the light), but it's all just faux-sincerity and grotesque New Jersey-ness that has nothing to do with real life in any capacity whatsover unless you're part of that vacuous order of pondscum who really really want to make it in New York but are stuck, to your eternal lament, on the wrong side of the bridge/tracks/50's doo wop bullshit.

And, just like the Eagles, it is perfect music for the people who want white picket fences and white neighbors and a nice union job and their VA health insurance. Fuck them. If you want the 'real American experience' listen to Oxbow.
