I ended up turning down the fuzz volumes to better match my clean volume. I mean, I totally get where he is coming from with wanting everything to fit like they used to, but his method of being really passive aggressive and not just telling me to turn the pedals down is what frustrates me as much as him just whining about not wanting to turn up. Also, my cab is facing him in the room, but it's always done that. I'm gonna turn it towards me the next time we practice. I think I'm just kinda tired of him bitching about it and then talk to me in a condescending manner about how to best use pedals in a band setting. It's offensive, and I plan on talking to him about it.

You young people and your lack of concern for ear damage...
Wait a few years and when you'll have tinnitus you'll wish you'd played quieter all these years (or at least used earplugs - there are great ones now that do not murder all frequencies above 100Hz).

Seriously, cherish your ears, people.
You only get one pair and once they're fucked, they're fucked :).

I've been saying that over and over and I don't get why no one understands. The only time I never played with ear plugs was when I first got a drum kit and changed that pretty shortly after because the cymbals were fucking killing me.

and shocking my friend who drums in Dragunov... who is older than I am... just said today... damn I think I need to start using ear plugs and I just stared at him dumbfounded cause I thought he always did. I mean fuck he always would ask for some every now and again.

I used to be totally anti-ear plugs when I was younger but in the last couple years I wear em every practice and every show. Not only do they save my hearing and prevent headaches but I spent like $20 on a decent reusable pair with a pretty high DB reduction level but even frequency reduction as well and I can honestly hear everything better. I can't stand not wearing them now, especially since I'm playing drums again, as SLK said cymbals behind a kit when you hit hard will kill your ears fast as shit.

For you loudness freaks think about it this way: Crank it up with out ear plugs till you think its an acceptable level, put in your ear plugs, and then crank it up even more!!!!

I've always been bad about this. Last couple shows I've went to, I really regretted not bringing my earplugs. The sad thing is that when I got my initial Army hearing test, the woman was so surprised by how good my hearing was she actually asked if i ever go to concerts and such. (Surprised even me because thats all I did.) Fastforward 9 years and my hearing is terrible. Too many rifle rounds and explosions. I've worn them off and on to shows, but never when we were playing.

I'm glad we're having this disscussion today because we're playing tonight and Ima bring my earpro. I have a couple sets of the surefire brand that have a stopper that you can put in that lets you decide the level of protection. They are sweet, because with the stopper out, you can still hear talking level but they attenuate the loud stuff by a good deal.(9db) Thanks ILdoom bros for talking some sense into me. Gotta keep as much of the hearing that I have left.

I always wear earplugs. I have a pair of hearos and wear them at every practice, show, or show I'm attending even. I don't risk it when it comes to my ears. I rather enjoy hearing music and not having a nice ringing in my ears

I just use the ones I can get in huge packs from the hardware store, they cut out all the frequencies that I hate, I can hear people when they talk to me and I just toss them when they grody. Plus I can basically take each pair of pants or shorts i'm wearing and throw 2 pairs in there so I never forget. So no matter what I'm doing I can always pull a pair out. I've even wore them to the movies cause it was too goddamn loud for my bare eardrums.

I hated being in bands being told to turn down. It didn't help when I was running a JCM800 100w, which doesn't really have the option of "turning down". It's loud, and it goes louder. Deal with it.

Still, after a years of conflict and arguments about volume, there was only really one response which resolved the issue...
