that probably is a factor--i have e120s in mine.

Maybe I'm just stating the obvious and please forgive me if I sound like a jerk.. but the amp's volume knob does work wonder :idk:

I own both SF Twin and Deluxe RI and I live in a small apartment for years. It depends on what you're looking for from the amp, If you mainly using pedals all for the dirt, then by all means Twin is the ultimate pedals canvas. The thing I don't quite like from lower wattage amps is the compression, but at bedroom/low volume level, any amps/wattage/size wouldn't be a problem (for clean & pedals). Different case if you're looking for the opened up and cooked tubes, but then again still.. even at 5 watts, it'll be way too loud. Reality is, living in apt.. dirt pedals are your friends for grit. Or maybe an attenuator, but honestly.. pedals are more practical.

What I want from the amp is, to provide a great clean and punchy foundation. The Twin gives me that loud and LOUDER volume when stacking dirt pedals, not that compressed and muddier as you add more gain stages (pedals) like DRRI does. Not that it's a bad amp, it's great.. just my personal preference since I'm stacking like 4 dirt pedals all at once in some points of my set and sounds great, whilst the DRRI only allowed me to stack like 2 dirt pedals before it gets mushed out and lose definition at band situation. Therefore, amps with high headroom is a necessity for me. And I'm using the Twin as my main amp, as a practice amp in my apartment volume around 2/2.5, and as a gigging amp volume around 4.5 (LOUD!!). Only used the DRRI for practice since it's easier to haul it back and forth. I might sell my limited edition drri and get the vibrolux instead for more headroom.

So my verdict would be, Twin for the versatility. Bedroom to huge stage wouldn't be a problem. Your back would hate this decision tho

Just my .02 YMMV

For about 10 months I used a 100W Quad Reverb as a living room and/or bedroom practice amp.
Pulled 2 power tubes and disconnected 2 speakers. And it's all about that long tank reverb

The Master Volume knob is your friend. So are speaker swaps...the less efficient the better.

Don't know about the '65 reissue, but I used to have a 100watt '74 silverface TR, and with the master volume down to bedroom levels, it really sounded a bit choked/muffled. Its like the tubes needed at least a tiny litte bit more warmth or whatever to be able to function properly. I'm not even talking about 'cooking' tubes, but it just felt like driving a muscle car in first gear, even though the volulme itself was loud enough to use with a dirt pedal in my living room. If the master volume on the '65 ri works better, and/or if the 85 vs 100Watt difference matters at all...It seems like a BF twin could indeed serve as both a practice amp as well as a live/rehearsel rig. Everyone seems to agree that it can do bedroom volumes, I'm gonna have to look for someone who sells me a mint condition one for $600

the reissues don't have a master volume. i have the 135 watt sf monster, which has an amazing clean tone. i never use the master volume for distortion. i also have an 85 watt bf reissue, which i like too. both can be used at practice levels, and both are loud enough for gig levels. getting a decent one for $600 may be a challenge.

Forgot to mention, mine is 1970 Silverface TR rated at 100 watts as well with healthy sets of NOS GE tubes, eminence crex and Texas heat combo. No chocking problem even playing at 1.5 on volume. Obviously no punch or air movement at that level.

Yeah sorry, I tend to refer to any single volume amp as a 'master volume', my bad.

I know $600 would be mission impossible, it's just that that's all I planned on spending on what was supposed to be my next 'practice amp' :s

I could justify it by selling one of my other amps, since I could use the twin for rehearsels too, but I like my other amps too much to sacrifise 'em :s
