Plus Troy Sanders used/uses one back when they were ripping, so FFOM applies. Plus the Spirit Caravan connection. It's pretty impossible to look at the modern state of doom without finding a seminal band that's got the Blue Beard lurking somewhere.

Tis very true, both Wino and Dave Sherman used them exclusively for years. It was the "maryland doom sound" until Mark and BAT came into the pedal building picture.

Not brand new, but I'm liking the ZVex Fuzzolo. Kind of Tone Benderish if you take it easy. Flat out insane if that's how you want to do it. I also ordered one of the Deluxe Muffs with the gate and the footswitchable mids section.

^ Yeah, I really liked the Fuzzolo when I tried it. Definitely still on my list.

I got the new Deluxe Muff. It's got a lot of flexibility in the EQ, especially with the foot switchable mids section, but it's pretty much all current-era Muff, in terms of it's design, which is to say audible and pleasing but less cosmic than some. I got it to fill in gaps in the lineup, and use for rhythm sounds when I'm not playing through my Laney, so its flexibility will really come in handy there. The bass boost and the attack knob are fairly subtle, but work to get certain frequencies into the mix, so you don't lose them. The parametric mid-Q is impressive, you can basically dial any mid frequency in or out, and the range is pretty wide. You can also control the mid sweep in real time with an expression pedal. On the narrow Q setting, it sounds like a really chewy wah. The gate is more of a noise gate than "gated fuzz" gate. It works well, but it doesn't get that squashed out gated fuzz sound. You can turn it up to sound weird, but it'll never have that crackle. That's ok cuz that's what my Fuzzolo is for!
But it doesn't get that many fuzz sounds that aren't straight-up muff. I'd have preferred a Pharaoh or a Supercollider, or even a really posh green Russian clone, but didn't want to lay out the $$ and this was $80, and I needed a pedal with a lot of EQ control because all my other fuzzes are one or two knobs. It'll work for me.
@Horsey Boy: I love the Fuzzolo! The only problem I have with it is the lack of EQ control. Sometimes you have to dial up the texture control in order to cut through a band mix, and then you start getting splatty (which can be good, depending on your mood). It's still one of my two favorite fuzzes, along with the Devi Ever Bit, and it cleans up a lot better than most.

I'm GASing hard for an EME Black Dust. Some of the Creepy Fingers pedals look cool.

I really liked the Anarchy Audio Vagiant fuzz pedal. Sounds awesome. Like an EH violet rams head with added mids. It just sounded huge. Unfortunately they were discontinued. I started looking at other options and decided that the SUF Violet Menace (violet rams head with a mids knob) might fit the bill, but couldn't really find any audio samples. I REALLY started liking the Basic Audio Alter-Destiny pedal and was about to pull the trigger on one when i noticed an email in my inbox from Anarchy Audio. They found an extra Vagiant PCB around, so they are making me basically the last one!

But that Alter-Destiny sounded awesome and it is REALLY tweakable for a nice eh tri/ram style pedal (they also have pedal a Tri/Ram pedal as well, but it's not mids adjustible iirc)

I had a Blue Beard, and I thought it kind of sucked for guitar. It's just another muff. NBD. Much better variants out there (Wren and Cuff, SUF, Skreddy, etc.).
I'm loving Tonebenders and Buzzarounds lately.

While we're on sorta on the subject of muff variants:
The two peds I'm considering: Supercollide, Barber Trifecta. Care to weigh in?
Used to have a '70s ehx bmp, and had a Swollen Pickle for a while. Both were great at what they did, but both of em easily dissapeared in a messy loud mix.
Also been lookinf at the BAT Pharaoh. I avoided it actually. Not just because of the hype (I'm weird that way), but it's supposedly not very gainy on it's own
