This has taken a nice twist.
Samplr doesn't fill the synth void, but Jesus god is it cool.

I wasn't near an instrument when I downloaded it, so I recorded a bit of humming.
Chopped it up to individual notes, changed the octave, added a filter, and it didn't sound like humming anymore.
And then I played myself. Magic.

Such an intuitive way to manipulate samples.

Oh yeah I know, I just meant the apps themselves. Not all the weird noise-synth apps have any midi interactivity but most of the major apps do.

I bought a theremini today, after fucking with my iPad/Animoog a bunch, I realized that that+a theremin could handle 90% of my noise needs. It's backordered until mid january, but I'm still really stoked to get it.

Yeah Android has some weird hiccup with audio latency, I read that on some message board at least. That was a while ago and maybe it is fixed now, hopefully more music stuff comes to Android, the platform as a whole has more potential than Apple's with the right support.

I don't see a lot of love for Alchemy. Love that app. DM1 and ReBirth are pretty good for drums. Novation Launchkey is fun, but I haven't spent much time with it.

Best drums are IMO Akai iMPC and iMPC Pro. Korg's iElectribe is close 2nd. iMS20 is completely crazy and synthetic and painful to use but the drum sounds you can get out of it are awesome.
DM1 doesn't really sound good when you record it.

korg gadget is my favorite overall app. great synth sounds, great drum sounds. lots of good yet simple sound shaping.

seekbeats is daat drum synth app doe.

I couldn't stop thinking about it after I watched a few sample vids.
I also got $70 in iTunes cards this season so I have been going nuts downloading iPad apps for an iPad that will not arrive till next week.

DM1 doesn't really sound good when you record it.

I have never recorded DM1, but I'm fairly confident I could make it sound decent in a recording. The main reason I like DM1 is for the selection of sampled machines they offer. Everyone has the xOx sounds covered, but I don't know of many that offer Casio drum sounds, or Linn, or the EHX DRM-15, or MFB drums, or even the fairly well known Roland CompuRhythm... and that doesn't even scratch the surface...

The random pattern generator is real nice for those times when you know you want some drums, but you just don't quiet know exactly where to start.
