My wife gave up caring about my gear habits. We used to go back and forth sometimes about it, but I really have slowed down compared to how I used to flip stuff. That and I get paid a decent amount more than I used to

Me: "I bought some new shit." Or, "I sold some of that other shit to fund some different shit."
Her: "Write me a song!

"
Me: "Uh... sure!

"
Also, basically what Skully said.

I have pedals shipped to my work address, from there they go to my rehearsal space. Im surprised nobody else in this thread has said this. Not that my SO would care too much, but I digress. I know I can go off the deepend with purchases and I don't want to arouse that sort of scrutiny in the first place.
Sometimes a pedal comes in on my off days and I have to wait days to fuck with this new gear that I'm dying to try. So that is where I practice the restraint that failed me when I made the purchase.

I just tell her its better then wasting that money on hookers and blow.
but srs, we ask each other before we spend anything over 100$ life is too short to keep things from the wife.

i really don't buy gear enough to worry about it. i only buy shit when i can actually afford it these days and i really don't ever impulse buy. i make enough to live a decent life, but i have to be pretty frugal about it. the last piece of gear i bought was a practice amp about 7 months ago and the last pedal i bought was a year and a half ago. my girl doesn't really worry about it. as long as my part of the bills are getting paid and i feel like i can afford it, she trusts me and doesn't hassle me about stuff like that. i don't bother her about stuff she buys. it's her business. we don't share a bank account or anything though, even though we own a house together, thank god. so much easier just to take care of your own money. if we did share one, i can't imagine hiding purchases from her. like whisk said, life's too short for stuff like that.

Yep. I've told my wife that I needed to sell absolutely everything that I would in a heartbeat and not even flinch. Family first, then gear.

I always tell her I traded for new gear on Craigslist... I am pretty sure she knows I'm full of shit but has yet to call my ass out, probably saving that ammo for some strategic mid-argument kill shot. I usually get home and see the mail before she does, thankfully.

Having already ten units with full-size-keys, my wife is rather mad when I purchase another synthesizer. This doesn't happen very often, but those beasts require more space than an effect pedal. And whenever I buy a few pedals she knows that I either keep them for myself or for making a demo and/or to sell them on (sometimes with a profit) to refinance other stuff. As long as I stay in a sane price-range she isn't exactly happy, but she isn't really pissed, either. All is well. Sort of.
