this totally. one of the worst being selling my og civil war muff that sounded fucking heavenly for a hundred bucks in a moment of absolute desperation. i hated it at the time and i hate it every day that i let it go for so cheap, but i really had no choice. i didn't really lose money cause i got it for a steal, but i'll never be able to get one again and i loved that pedal.D.o.S. wrote:Any time I've had to sell gear to pay bills.

First tube head/amp: peavey windsor for $400. Then finding out later that VTM's go way cheaper...

Re: Tone/gear related regrets thread
I had a black russian big muff that was the best sounding muff I'd ever owned. Thought that it would be cool to mod it to civil war spec before I could solder and I killed it.
It's corpse is still waiting under my stereo. Calling to me.

Re: Tone/gear related regrets thread
I bought a Peavey Valveking new when I was in high school.
I think that's the only gear regret I have, honestly.
I keep a spreadsheet of every pedal I've ever owned.
I just looked back through it, and I don't miss any of them.
Some of them I wouldn't mind owning again, but I don't regret getting rid of them.

Re: Tone/gear related regrets thread
I've also got a spreadsheet with everything I've owned. I don't regret getting rid of anything - being a compulsive hoarder I've usually got decent reasons fr flipping stuff.
Of all the gear I've flipped I'd rebuy a Biyang Metal End King. It was too big for my board, but sounded great and had a speaker emulated out. Would be nice to have it as a backup in case the amp dies mid gig.
Otherwise, I got good deals on a MXR Blue Box and a Musket that I picked up when getting other stuff with the sole intention of flipping them over here for massive profit. Blue box is awesome, and I really didn't want to flip it after testing it. Musket - didn't like it at high gain but low gain was really nice. Would like to pick one up (or another tricked out muff) for low gain fun at some stage. But I've got low gain covered, so I'll only do it when I have random cash laying around.
Wish I didn't have to get rid of my Laney AOR.
But gear has definitely brought me waaaay more fun and toanz than regrets. Haven't done anything too stupid yet.

I really wish I had a Vox amp, because I'd use it more than my Traynor for the simple reason that Vox have diamond grilles.

Re: Tone/gear related regrets thread
I bought a new 2013 MIA Fender Jazz 5. My main bass was down for repairs and I needed a backup, and I wanted a "meat & potatoes" bass. It was just boring and uninspiring to me. I wish I had held out for a used bass, or one that really spoke to me. I have since flipped it for another bass I'm not gelling with either.
When I first started getting into pedals a few years ago before I even had a board, I won an ebay bid for a LYT board, Voodoo PP2, and 20 of those little Mooer Pedals. The only item I still have is the PP2. I sold off every other piece. Again, should have saved that cash for stuff I was certain I liked. It did teach me that Mooers are great for their price, but not great for me.

Re: Tone/gear related regrets thread
I sold off a Fryette Sig X that I loved along with a Divided by 13 CJ11 and plunked down the $2k for a new Dr. Z KT-45. I waited patiently for a few months, buying a Zbest cab to pass the time. When it finally arrived in the shop on a Friday I rushed it home, plugged it in and...it was easily the worst sounding amp I've ever used aside from fuzzy carpeted solid state Johnson amp I started with a great many years prior. It was just piercing and gave me ear fatigue in minutes no matter how I had the eq set.
Needless to say, it was pretty devastating to have sold off two great amps for one that I hated. Luckily enough, in my years of trying amps sight-unseen, it was the first time I ever could not get along with an amp at all.

Re: Tone/gear related regrets thread
I had to sell off a ton of stuff in 2010-13 because i was unemployed and rattling around the country like a peanut in a can: a matched set Tele/Strat i did myself, two Blueridge acoustics that i really loved. i sold a Epiphone Wildkat to buy my Tokai Les Paul Special. out of the pedals i really miss my pair of Marshall Guv'nor 2s and my Biyang "analog" delay. but i think i regret not buying the Rickenbacker 330 for $550 the most.
